In the locking position, at least part of the clamping ring that faces the first end of the receiving part is exposed to the outside to facilitate movement of the clamping ring away from the first end of the receiving part.

An extension member of a bone anchoring device is insertable through the first end into the sleeve to position the sleeve around at least part of the extension member. The wall has an outer surface and defines a laterally extending opening. A surface at a lower end of the opening extends inwardly from the outer surface by a first distance to facilitate insertion of a free end of the extension member from the first end into the opening, while a surface at an upper end of the opening extends inwardly from the outer surface by a distance greater than the first distance to restrict the free end from extending past the upper end of the opening.

    摘要: The present disclosure includes a polyaxial bone fixation element for use in spinal fixation to interconnect a longitudinal spinal rod with a patient's vertebra. The polyaxial bone fixation element preferably includes a bone anchor, a collet, a body, and a locking cap. The polyaxial bone fixation element preferably enables in-situ assembly. That is, the polyaxial bone fixation element is preferably configured so that in use, the bone anchor may be secured to the patient's vertebra prior to being received within the body. Accordingly, the polyaxial bone fixation element enables a surgeon to implant the bone anchor without the body to maximize visibility and access around the anchoring site. Once the bone anchor has been secured to the patient's vertebra, the body can be snapped-onto the bone anchor. The bone anchor preferably also includes a second tool interface so that a surgical instrument can be directly coupled to the bone anchor.

    摘要: Disclosed herein is a surgical instrument configured for attachment to a surgical device. The surgical instrument includes a distal region having a curved internal surface configured to mate with a curved external surface of the surgical device, a rotational locking feature that limits rotational movement of the instrument with respect to the surgical device, and an axial locking feature that limits axial movement of the blade with respect to the surgical device. Methods of using the surgical instruments include sliding the axial locking feature past a corresponding axial locking feature on the surgical device, locking the axial locking feature to the corresponding axial locking feature on the surgical device (thereby limiting axial movement of the elongated blade with respect to the surgical device), adjusting the position of the surgical device using the surgical instrument, and disengaging the axial locking feature (for example, by using a disengagement instrument).
