1,1,1-trichloroethane is recovered in an excellent yield from textile material without deterioration in quality of the textile material by a method in which a textile material is introduced into a hot water bath having a temperature of 64.degree. C. or more and a pH of 4.0 or more, so as to allow 1,1,1-trichloroethane to vaporize together with water, the mixture of vapors of 1,1,1-trichloroethane and water is condensed by cooling it, and then, the condensed 1,1,1-trichloroethane is separated from the condensed water.

Disclosed is a method for cleaning clothes which comprises bringing the clothes into contact with a cleaning solvent, removing the contaminated solvent, rinsing and then drying the clothes, the improvement wherein said cleaning solvent consists of propylene glycol monomethyl ether containing 4 to 50% by volume of water.

Animal hair grease is recovered in a high yield from a scouring waste liquid obtained from a scouring process of a raw animal hair material with a hydrophobic organic solvent and containing a scouring extract derived from the raw animal hair material. The process for this comprises the steps of:(A) converting the scouring waste liquid to a flock-forming liquid by the following operations, which may be carried out in any sequence,(a) adding water to the scouring waste,(b) adjusting the content of the scouring extract in the flock-forming liquid to 20% to 70% based on the entire weight of the flock-forming liquid,(c) adjusting the content of water in the flock-forming liquid to 2% to 110% based on the weight of the scouring extract, and(d) adjusting the temperature of the flock-forming liquid to 80.degree. C. to 100.degree. C., whereby flocks are formed in the flock-forming liquid;(B) removing the flock from the flock-forming liquid, whereby a residual liquid containing therein purified animal hair grease is obtained; and(C) recovering the animal hair grease from the residual liquid.

A new type of scoured animal hair material, in which the animal hair retains therein 1 to 3% by weight of a residual soapy substance and 0.3 to 5% by weight of a residual fatty substance, is prepared by scouring a greasy animal hair material in the form of opened loose fibers having a density of 0.007 to 0.04 g/cm.sup.3, with a scouring liquid comprising at least one organic solvent selected from 1,1,1-trichloroethane and methylene chloride and 0.1 to 10%, based on the weight of the scouring liquid, of a raw animal hair grease which has been extracted from the same type of greasy animal hair as that to be scoured, while moving either one or both of the animal hair material and the scouring liquid in relation to each other at a relative speed of 3 to 60 m/min.
