Abstract: A dyeing and welding process may be configured to convert a substrate into a welded substrate having at least some color imparted thereto via a dye and/or coloring agent by applying a process solvent having a dye and/or coloring agent therein to the substrate, wherein the process solvent interrupts one or more intermolecular force between one or more component in the substrate. The substrate may be configured as a natural fiber, such as cellulose, hemicelluloses, and silk. The process solvent may include a binder, such as dissolved biopolymer (e.g., cellulose). After application of a process solvent comprised of a dye and/or coloring agent, the substrate may be exposed to a second application of a process solvent comprised of a binder, which second application may occur before or after a process temperature/pressure zone, process solvent recovery zone, and/or drying zone.

The substrate may be configured as a natural fiber, such as cellulose, hemicelluloses, and silk. The process solvent may be configured as an ionic-liquid based solvent and the welded substrate may be a congealed network after the process solvent has been adequately swollen and/or mobilized the substrate. A welding process may be configured such that individual fibers of a substrate are not fully dissolved such that material in the fiber core may be left in the native state by controlling process variables. The welding process fibers may have a tenacity 10% or 20% greater or a diameter 25% less than that of a cellulosic-based yarn substrate.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a reactive dye bath and a dyeing process for textiles. The reactive dye bath for textiles comprises an organic solvent, an aqueous dye solution, a surfactant and a co-surfactant. The reactive dye bath or the dyeing process of the present invention allows for full up-take of the dye without subjecting the textiles to any special pre-treatment and without the addition of a salt for accelerating dyeing, so as to obtain dyed textiles with a higher dyeing depth, uniformity and fastness.

Abstract: A method of color-dyeing a lens for goggles and glasses, whereby the lens includes a polycarbonate substrate, the method including the steps of: providing a liquid mixture of components including at least one dye or pigment, suitable for color-dyeing polycarbonate and a dispersion medium, whereby the at least one dye or pigment is dispersed as colloids in the dispersion medium; immersing the substrate into the mixture such that the at least one dye or pigment is impregnated into the substrate; and withdrawing the substrate from the mixture. The method is characterized in that the dispersion medium includes a solvent for dissolving the at least one dye or pigment, whereby the solvent includes at least one member selected from the group including an organic alcohol, in particular an aromatic alcohol, in particular benzylic alcohol; a butyl acetate, and a methacrylate ester, in particular methyl methacrylate.

Abstract: A dye composition of 99.7% pure glycerin and press cake dye is provided along with an apparatus and method of use for the same. The apparatus sets the dye composition into polyester yarns by heating the composition to 160-190.degree. C. and then cooling the composition to 100-140.degree. C. Prescour, dye scour and post scour vessels are provided to facilitate the dyeing process. The fluids used in the apparatus and process are recycled by recycling units.

Abstract: A method for authenticating a textile product, wherein a colorless composition is applied to at least one portion of at least one thread of the textile product. The composition comprises one of a pair of a colorformer and an activator which react when mixed to produce a spectral response. The textile product is authenticated as genuine by applying the other of the pair of the colorformer and activator to at least one portion of the at least one thread to produce the spectral response. The textile product may be a thread or a woven label.

Abstract: A composition for rendering materials fluorescent substantially without visible trace comprises an organic fluorescent compound dissolved in a solvent characterized by a boiling point or distillation range at atmospheric pressure of between about 12.degree.-35.degree. C. The preferred composition comprises fluorescent azoles, such as 2-(o-Hydroxyphenyl)benzoxazole, 2-(o-Hydroxyphenyl)benoxazole, and derivatives thereof dissolved in volatile halocarbon solvents, such as Fluorotrichlormethane, 1,1-Dichloro-1-Fluoroethane, and 2,2-Dichloro-1,1,1-Trifluoroethane. The resultant product is particularly suited for marking currency, papers, fabrics, and other porous webs and surfaces. Treated surfaces appear normal in white light, are highly fluorescent under UV light and feature excellent transfer of the fluorescent compound to fingertips and other surfaces in direct or glancing contact.
