Abstract:
A waterproof sleeve coupling for use in a partition for preventing liquid from leaking through a penetration in the partition either adjacent to or through the sleeve coupling. The sleeve coupling has a flexible water stop mounted in sealing contact with a sleeve so that a waterproof seal is formed between the water stop and the sleeve. The sleeve coupling optionally includes an extension coupling and an extension sleeve mounted on the sleeve. When the sleeve coupling is mounted in the partition, the extension sleeve extends beyond the surface of the partition to prevent liquid on the surface of the partition from leaking into the passageway of the sleeve coupling.
Abstract:
A valve for use in a floor drain to prevent the backflow of fluids from the drain system. The valve includes a valve member and a collar. The first end of the valve member is mounted to the outer surface of the second portion of the collar. In the normal position, the sidewall of the valve member at the second end of the valve member is curled and the valve is in the closed position. When a preset amount of fluid pressure is provided through the collar to the first end of the valve member, the sidewall of the valve member flexes to an open position forming an inner passageway between the ends of the valve member.
Abstract:
An improved fitting assembly (10) to be mounted in a coupling (11) embedded in a partition means (100) for connecting fluid carrying pipes (33,35) to the opposed open ends of the fitting assembly, is described. The fitting assembly is comprised of a tubular, non-flammable fitting conduit (21) that has an annular enlarged portion (23) on the outside sidewall (21A) of the conduit. The enlarged portion has an annular recess (27) that provides for mounting an annular, plastic gasket (25). The gasket is bonded in the recess and when the fitting conduit is mounted inside the coupling, the enlarged portion and gasket are in contact with the inside wall (13A) of the coupling. The gasket is then bonded to the coupling, which is plastic, to form a seal between the fitting assembly and the coupling. The contact point between the fitting assembly and the coupling is adjustable along the length of the coupling. The seal prevents the spread of smoke and fire between floors or the like in a building.
Abstract:
An improved firestop fitting with a flammable main conduit (11) and extension conduit (12) supporting a non-flammable sleeve (14) and plug (16). The plug lodges into the sleeve when a harness (17) is melted by heat from a fire below the floor (100 or 101) in which the fitting is mounted which passes into the conduits. The fitting is relatively light and inexpensive.
Abstract:
An elastomeric joint (10) for use with couplings (100), pipe (201 to 204), connectors (205) and the like is described. The elastomeric joint is particularly adapted to provide ease of mounting of the pipe, particularly plastic pipe, between couplings embedded in the floors (500 and 500a) in the construction of buildings.
Abstract:
A firestop drain assembly for mounting in a partition to prevent fire on one side of the partition from moving through the firestop drain assembly to the other side of the partition. The firestop drain assembly can achieve an F-rating and a T-rating of at least one (1) hour.
Abstract:
A firestop coupling assembly (10 or 210) for allowing the passage of utility members (50 or 52) through a penetration in a partition (54 or 56) while preventing the transmission of fire and smoke through the penetration. The coupling assembly includes an outer sleeve (12 or 212) and an inner conduit (16 or 216). The outer sleeve has a concentric indention (12D or 212D) around its inner surface within which is mounted an intumescent material (20 or 220). In one (1) embodiment, the inner conduit is mounted in the open top end of the outer sleeve so that the second end (16B or 216B) of the inner conduit is adjacent the intumescent material. In another embodiment, the inner conduit is adjustable along the length of the outer sleeve. A plug (22 or 222) can be provided in at least one end of the inner conduit allowing passage of at least one (1) utility member through the assembly. In another embodiment, the inner diameter of the inner conduit is only slightly greater than the outer diameter of the utility member so that the utility member can be solvent welded to the inner surface of the inner conduit. When the coupling assembly is exposed to heat, the intumescent material expands into the inner passageway of the outer sleeve and prevents the transmission of smoke and fire through the coupling assembly.
