摘要: A display device with a touch detection function includes: a plurality of liquid crystal display elements performing display operation; a plurality of touch detection electrodes arranged side by side to extend in one direction, and each outputting a detection signal based on a change in an electrostatic capacitance caused by an external proximity object; a conductive film insulated from or connected with high resistance to the touch detection electrodes, and disposed to cover the touch detection electrodes; and a touch detection circuit detecting the external proximity object by sampling the detection signal. The conductive film has a sheet resistance equal to or smaller than a predetermined resistance value, and has a time constant larger than a predetermined minimum time constant defined by sampling timings in the touch detection circuit.

摘要: A liquid crystal panel including a driving substrate and a counter substrate, the two substrates having a liquid crystal layer interposed therebetween. The driving substrate has pixel electrodes and transistors connected to the pixel electrodes on a surface thereof, which are covered with an alignment film. The counter substrate is provided adjacent to the alignment film of the driving substrate. The alignment film is rubbed in a direction substantially parallel to signal lines or scanning lines connected to the transistors. Each of the pixels has a projection at a substantially central position in a direction perpendicular to the rubbing direction.

摘要: The orientation of a reflection type liquid crystal display device is improved to widen the field angle. A panel is provided with a transparent first substrate located on the external light incident side, a second substrate located on the opposite side bonded to the first substrate with interposition of a predetermined space, a twist-oriented nematic liquid crystal layer supported in the space between both substrates, and electrodes for applying a voltage to the nematic liquid crystal layer formed on both substrates. The nematic liquid crystal layer remains in twist orientation and functions as a quarter wavelength layer to allow the external light to pass in cooperation with the deflection plate and the quarter wavelength plate for displaying white while no voltage is applied. On the other hands the nematic liquid crystal layer is converted to perpendicular orientation and loses the function of a quarter wavelength layer not to allow the external light to pass for displaying black. The orientation direction 3U of nematic liquid crystal molecules which are in contact with the first substrate is prescribed in a range of 168.5.+-.10 degrees with respect to the upward direction of the screen of the panel, and the orientation direction 3L of nematic liquid crystal molecules which are in contact with the second substrate is prescribed in a range of 51.5.+-.10 degrees.
