    摘要: A liquid crystal display device of a transverse electric field type has characteristics in the following respects. A liquid crystal layer is sandwiched between two substrates. Two polarizing plates are provided on a side of the two substrates opposite to the liquid crystal layer such that the light transmission axes thereof are orthogonal to each other. A first electrode and a second electrode are formed on one of the two substrates. The liquid crystal is driven by an electric field generated between the first electrode and the second electrode. The polarizing plate, formed on one of the two substrates, is formed of a protective film, a polarizer, and two negative biaxial films. The two negative biaxial films include first and second negative biaxial films. The first negative biaxial film and the second negative biaxial film are entirely overlapped, and are disposed on a side of one or the other substrate.

    摘要: A liquid crystal display device of a transverse electric field type has characteristics in the following respects. A liquid crystal layer is sandwiched between two substrates.     摘要: A liquid crystal display device 1 has subpixels 10 having a light-transmissive region 10a and a light-reflective region 10b. A color filter layer 50 corresponding to an identification pattern 70 that it is desired to be displayed when the liquid crystal display device 1's power is off is formed at the light-reflective regions 10b, so that even when the liquid crystal display device 1 is in the non-driven state, incident external light emerges as outgoing light having the colors of the color layers corresponding to the identification pattern, and hence the identification pattern can be displayed. Thus, any desired pattern can be displayed in the liquid crystal display device's non-driven state, so that a liquid crystal display device with extensive expression and superior display characteristics is provided.

    摘要: Light reflecting layers 45a that totally reflect light are provided inside the subpixels 10 disposed in particular regions on an inner face of a TFT array substrate 4, and light reflecting layers 45b that scatter light are provided inside the subpixels 10 other than those. Thanks to this, the reflectance of the light reflecting layers 45a can be rendered different from that of the light reflecting layers 45b. As a result, differences can be created in the display light formed by the light reflecting layers 45a and by the light reflecting layers 45b, by means of the light that is reflected thereat. Thereby, fine adjustment of the display light brightness and contrast is enabled, so that a liquid crystal display device 1 with extensive power of expression and superior display characteristics is provided.
