Abstract:
System and methods for optimizing parameters for drilling operations are provided. A target value of a user-selected operating variable is estimated for each stage of a drilling operation to be performed along a planned well path, based on a first set of wellsite data. Values of one or more drilling parameters are determined for performing each stage of the operation, based on the estimated target value of the operating variable for that stage. The target value of the operating variable is updated based on a second set of wellsite data obtained during a current stage of the operation. The values of the drilling parameters are optimized for subsequent stages of the drilling operation based on the updated target value. The planned path of the well is adjusted for the subsequent stages, based on the optimized drilling parameter values. The subsequent stages are performed along the adjusted path of the well.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for automated planning and/or control of a drilling operation are implemented to be based at least in part on automated prediction of well performance using an analytical well performance model. Substantially real-time determination of one or more drilling parameters and/or well trajectory parameters is based on measurements received from a drill tool together with the well performance model. The described techniques thus provide for automated, analytically determined well performance measures (e.g., well productivity and/or revenue) to a geosteering process. The well performance model accounts for variations of well trajectory both in inclination and in azimuth angle.
Abstract:
Predicting and visualizing drilling events. At least some of the example embodiments are methods including: receiving data indicative of location of a first wellbore; identifying an offset well, the offset well within a predetermined distance of the first wellbore, the identifying by the computer system based on the data indicative of location of the first wellbore; reading data associated with the offset well, the reading by the computer system; generating a value indicative of probability of occurrence of a drilling event based on the data associated with the offset well; plotting the value indicative of probability of occurrence of the drilling event associated with a direction relative to the first wellbore, the plotting on a display device coupled to the computer system; and then adjusting a drilling parameter of the first wellbore based on the value indicative of probability of occurrence of the at least one drilling event.
