Abstract: The present invention relates to a video display device and a method for operating same. The video display device according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises: a display; a network interface unit that performs communication through a network; and a control unit, wherein the control unit may receive video data and subtitle data corresponding to predetermined content from a first server through the network interface unit, extract advertisement information from the subtitle data, acquire advertisement data corresponding to the advertisement information from a second server through the network interface unit, and output, though the display, a screen including at least one of an image frame corresponding to the video data, a subtitle object corresponding to the subtitle data, and an advertisement object corresponding to the advertisement data. Various other embodiments are possible.
