Abstract: A mobile terminal and controlling method thereof is provided. The mobile terminal includes a display having at least one screen and operating in either a first mode or a second mode and a controller detecting a command to turn off the display, controlling the display to activate a first region of a screen, deactivate a second region of the screen and display information related to an application on the activated first region in response to the command when the display is operated in the first mode, the information including at least first information related to a parameter of a function performed by the application or second information related to progress of the function and control the display to deactivate the entire screen in response to the command when the display is operated in the second mode.
