The method comprises the steps of: providing a removable display device having a display for displaying digital images stored on the display device, the display device including a graphical user interface, the display device having a electrical connector; providing a functional module electrically interfaceable with the display device, the functional module providing a function and including stored data to configure the graphical user interface to control the function of the functional module from the display device; automatically transferring the stored data from the functional module to the display device when the functional module is electrically interfaced with the display device; and using the transferred data to configure the graphical user interface.

摘要： A method and system for programming a universal remote control (URC) to operate with a new remote controlled device having a digital mark is disclosed. A digital representation of the mark is generated and sent to a multimedia content distribution network (MCDN) server, along with MCDN account information. The digital mark may be used to retrieve programming codes, which are sent to client premises equipment (CPE) at an MCDN client identified by the MCDN account information. The CPE may be instructed to reprogram the URC to control the new device using the programming codes. The digital mark may be scanned and sent to the server using wireless telephony service provided by the MCDN service provider.

A user may be instructed to operate a control element of an original remote control (ORC) of the remote-controlled device. The ORC may be operated directly with the URC, which may so receive a programming code from the ORC. The programming code may be used by the URC to determine an identity of the remote-controlled device and/or the ORC. Based on the identity, the URC may obtain corresponding programming codes for the remote-controlled device. The URC may be configured to use at least one of the programming codes to remotely control the remote-controlled device.

The device has a first memory section designated for storing images and a second memory section for storing digital images of the designated collection. The second memory section has a protected mode that prevents the digital images in the second memory section from being deleted or overwritten. When the protected mode of the second section is disabled, the device will overwrite the digital images of the second memory section with newly captured digital images. These digital images are restored to the second memory section when the digital display and storage device is in communication link with a database that has information for restoring overwritten digital images after newly obtained images in the second memory have been removed from the device.

The identification information may indicate a setting of a switch of the remote control device or a user of the remote control device. Generating the CPE code may include generating a first CPE code when the identification information indicates a first user and generating a different CPE code when the identification information indicates a second user. Generating the CPE code may still further include accessing parental control restrictions associated with a user or user class indicated by the identification information and generating a CPE code in compliance with the parental control restrictions.
