Abstract:
A coating composition that forms a flexible finish and is used primarily as a clear finish over a colored or pigmented finish that are applied to flexible substrates of automobile and truck bodies; the composition contains as the film forming binder (1) a branched aliphatic polyester urethane which is the reaction product of a polyisocyanate and a branched aliphatic polyester and (2) preferably a methylated and butylated melamine formaldehyde crosslinking agent.
Abstract:
A coating composition useful for a finish for automobiles and trucks in which the film forming binder contains reactive binder components of about(a) 25-90% by weight, based on the weight of the binder, of an acrylic polymer having at least two reactive anhydride groups composed of polymerized monomers of an ethylenically unsaturated anhydride and polymerized monomers from the group consisting of alkyl methacrylate, alkyl acrylate and any mixtures thereof, wherein the alkyl groups have 1-8 carbon atoms and the polymer has a weight average molecular weight of about 2,000-50,000;5-50% by weight, based on the weight of the binder, of a glycidyl component having at least two reactive glycidyl groups;5-50% by weight, based on weight of the binder, of a polymeric component containing multiple hydroxy groups; andthe composition contains about 0.1-5% by weight; based on the weight of the binder, of a catalyst.
Abstract:
A high solids coating composition comprising defined acrylics, polyester, reactive diluent, aminoplast, catalyst and pigment including talc and TiO.sub.2 is particularly suitable for use as an exterior can coating which is baked repetitively to cure multiple ink applications.
