ARE NOVEL AND EFFECTIVELY COMBAT A VARIETY OF UNDERSIRABLE ORGANISMS, INCLUDING FUNGI AND MITES WHEN APPLIED TO OBJECTS, PARTICULARLY PLANTS, THAT ARE SUSCEPTIBLE TO ATTACK BY THESE ORGANISMS. IN THE FOREGOING FORMULAE EACH R IS INDIVIDUALLY SELECTED FROM HYDROGEN AND LOWER ALKYL RADICALS, X IS A CHLORINE, BROMINE, FLUORINE, HYDROXYL, CARBOXYLATE, PHENOXY, ALKOXY (-OR'') OR MERCAPTIDE (-SR'') RADICAL WHEREIN R'' REPRESENTS AN ALKYL OR ARYL RADICAL CONTAINING BETWEEN 1 AND 12 CARBON ATOMS, INCLUSIVE; Y IS AN OXYGEN, SULFUR, OR A SULFATE RADICAL AND N REPRESENTS AN INTEGER BETWEEN 1 AND 5, INCLUSIVE.
Abstract:
Novel organotin compounds of the formula RnR''(3 n) SnX are prepared by reacting equimolar amounts of R(n 1)R''3 nSn and a stannic halide in an inert hydrocarbon solvent at temperatures between about -25* and 80* C. R represents a monovalent linear aliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing up to six carbon atoms, R'' represents a monovalent aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing up to eight carbon atoms, with the proviso that the molecular weight of R'' exceeds that of R by at least 42 except when R'' is a cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon radical. X represents a chlorine or bromine atom and n represents an integer selected from the group consisting of 1 and 2.

A PROCESS FOR PREPARING POLYETHYLENE TEREPHTHALTE WHEREIN DIMETHYL TEREPHTHALATE IS REACTED WITH ETHYLENE GLYCOL TO FORM AN ESTER OF ETHYLENE GLYCOL AND TEREPHTHALIC ACID OR WHERE TEREPHTHALIC ACID IS REACTED WITH ETHYLENE GLYCOL TO FORM AN ESTER OF TEREPHTHALIC ACID AND ETHYLENE GLYCLO WHERE THE RESULTING ESTER IS POLYCONDENSED IN THE PRESENCE OF A POLYCONDENSATION CATALYST, THE IMPROVEMENT COMPRISING CARRYING OUT THE CONDENSATION OR POLYMERIZATION OF THE ESTER IN THE PRESENCE OF A CATALYTIC AMOUNT OF SPECIFIED TRIVALENT ANTIMONY COMPOUNDS CONTAINING THREE ANTIMONY SULFUR BONDS.
