    Abstract: A power actuation system for a motor vehicle closure panel includes a motor operable to pivot a driven gear. At least one pawl assembly is operably supported by the driven gear for movement between a lever driving position, whereat the pawl assembly is positioned to pivot a lever coupled to the door to pivot the door concurrently with movement of the driven gear, and a lever releasing position, whereat the pawl assembly is positioned to permit free pivotal movement of the lever and door relative to the driven gear. The pawl assembly includes a roller engaged with the lever for rolling movement therealong during movement of the pawl assembly between the lever driving position and the lever releasing position, which results in minimal static and kinetic friction, thereby lending to reliable, low effort movement of the pawl assembly between the lever driving position and the lever releasing position.

    Abstract: A load balancing mechanism for controlling concurrent operation of a pair of latches of a vehicle via a respective pair of links connecting the pair of latches to an actuator, the actuator for sharing by the pair of latches, the load balancing mechanism comprising: a housing for connecting to a body of the vehicle; a lever mounted to the housing at a pivot such that the lever is pivotable about the pivot; an actuator mounting point on the lever connecting the lever to the actuator, the actuator for rotating the lever about the pivot; and a load balancing element mounted on the lever at an axis and rotatable about the axis, such that each of the respective pair of links is positioned on opposite sides of the axis, said each of the respective pair of links for coupling to a corresponding one of the pair of latches; wherein operation of the actuator causes both rotation of lever about the pivot and rotation of the load balancing element about the axis while the pair of latches are operated concurrently. A power cinch system and a power release system can be included.

    Abstract: A counterbalance mechanism for assisting in opening and closing of a closure panel of a vehicle between a closed position and an open position, the counterbalance mechanism including: a housing for mounting a biasing mechanism of the counterbalance mechanism between the body and the closure panel; the biasing mechanism including: a fixed primary abutment of the housing having a primary biasing element mounted thereon; a fixed secondary abutment of the housing having a secondary biasing element mounted thereon; a movable plate variably positioned on a bias axis, the moveable plate between the primary biasing element and the secondary biasing element, an axial position of the movable plate movable in relation to the fixed primary abutment and the fixed secondary abutment to selectively change a primary spring constant of the primary biasing element and a secondary spring constant of the secondary biasing element; and an actuator connected to the movable plate, the actuator responsive to a control signal in order to adjust the position of the movable plate; wherein the primary biasing element applies a spring force to moderate extension of the counterbalance mechanism affecting movement of the closure panel between the open and closed positions.
