Abstract: Accordingly, systems and methods for managing power when the number of training and data tones are increased in a wireless communications system are provided. An L-SIG field is generated that includes a set of data and pilot tones, wherein the pilot tones are inserted between the data tones in the set of data and pilot tones. A plurality of training tones is added to the L-SIG field before and after the set of data and pilot tones. A symbol is generated that includes the L-SIG field, an L-LTF field, and a data field, wherein the training tones of the L-SIG field provide channel estimates for the data field. Power of the L-LTF field is managed relative to power of the L-SIG field in the generated symbol in a time domain.

Abstract: A first communication device maintains respective spatial reuse information for respective pairs of second communication devices, the respective spatial reuse information for determining whether the first communication device can simultaneously transmit during respective transmissions between the respective pairs of second communication devices. The first communication device determines whether the first communication device can transmit a spatial reuse transmission to a third communication device simultaneously with one or more ongoing transmissions between one or more pairs of second communication devices using the spatial reuse information. Responsive to determining that the first communication device can transmit the spatial reuse transmission, the first communication device transmits a packet to the third communication device simultaneously with the one or more ongoing transmissions between one or more pairs of second communication devices.

Abstract: A first communication device receives, from a second communication device, a synchronization frame having an allocation indicator that indicates a non-overlapping allocation of pilot tones. The first communication device generates a first data frame that comprises a plurality of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols of a non-legacy training field portion, the plurality of OFDM symbols including only pilot tones corresponding to the non-overlapping allocation of pilot tones. The first communication device transmits, in response to the synchronization frame and via a multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) communication channel, the first data frame to the second communication device simultaneously with a transmission of a second data frame by a third communication device via the MIMO communication channel, wherein corresponding OFDM symbols of respective non-legacy training field portions of the first data frame and the second data frame include non-overlapping pilot tones according to the non-overlapping allocation.

Abstract: A channel access timer at a communication device is set to a duration for which a shared communication medium is expected to be busy in a basic service set (BSS) heard by the communication device. The channel access timer is counted down. Before the channel access timer reaches zero, respective indications of respective contention free period durations in multiple basic service sets (BSSs) heard by the communication device are recorded in a BSS record maintained by the communication device. Recording the respective indications includes recording, for each particular BSS of the multiple BSSs, (i) an identifier of the particular BSS and (ii) an offset value corresponding to an offset of an end of a contention free period in the particular BSS from an end of a contention free period in the BSS based on which the channel access timer is currently set at the communication device.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide a method for providing a physical-layer control mechanism in accordance with a wireless local area network communication protocol allowing a high data rate. At a wireless receiver, a physical-layer data frame may be received compliant with the wireless local area network communication protocol. When the physical-layer data frame includes only one data unit, a length of an enhanced directional multi-gigabit header from a header associated with the physical-layer data frame may be obtained, and the enhanced directional multi-gigabit header from the physical-layer data frame may be enhanced based on the length. When the physical-layer data frame includes more than one data unit, a first length of a first data unit may be obtained from a first header associated with the first data unit, and the first data unit may be identified from the data frame based on the first length.

Abstract: A communication device determines a format according to which a physical layer (PHY) data unit is to be generated. The communication device selects i) length information to be included in a field in a legacy portion of a PHY preamble of the PHY data unit, and ii) a phase of modulation of an orthogonal frequency division modulation (OFDM) symbol in a non-legacy portion of the PHY preamble, wherein the length information and the phase of modulation are selected to indicate the format from a set of multiple PHY formats defined by a communication protocol. The communication device generates the PHY data unit to include the selected length information in the field in the legacy portion of the PHY preamble and to modulate the OFDM symbol in the non-legacy portion of the PHY preamble with the selected phase, and transmits the PHY data unit.

Abstract: A method for transmission of media access control (MAC) protocol data units (MPDUs) over a wireless local area network (WLAN) communication channel is described. A first physical layer (PHY) data unit is generated at a first communication device. The first PHY data unit has i) a data field that includes a first MPDU to be transmitted to a second communication device, and ii) a PHY signal field that includes a transmission version field set to indicate an initial transmission of the first MPDU. The first PHY data unit is transmitted over the WLAN communication channel to the second communication device. It is determined, at the first communication device, whether a first acknowledgment to the first MPDU has been received from the second communication device. In response to determining that the first acknowledgment has not been received, a second PHY data unit is generated at the first communication device. The second PHY data unit has i) a data field that includes the first MPDU, and ii) a PHY signal field that includes a transmission version field set to indicate a retransmission of the first MPDU. The second PHY data unit is transmitted over the WLAN communication channel to the second communication device.

A described technique includes receiving a signal including a first portion and a second portion, the first portion including a first received symbol and a second received symbol; detecting whether the first received symbol is repeated as the second received symbol using a maximum a posterior decision metric including a first component and a second component, the first component contributing to the decision metric in accordance with the first received symbol being repeated as the second received symbol, and the second component contributing to the decision metric in accordance with the first received symbol not being repeated as the second received symbol; determining a format based on whether or not the first received symbol was repeated; and processing the second portion of the signal in accordance with the format, as determined.
