Abstract: A lithium ion battery is provided that includes: a positive electrode; a negative electrode; a separator comprising a material having a melt temperature of greater than 150° C.; and an electrolyte including an organic solvent and a lithium salt. A method for sterilizing a lithium ion battery is also provided that includes: providing a lithium ion battery (particularly one as described herein); either charging or discharging the battery to a state of charge (SOC) of 20% to 100%; and steam sterilizing the battery to form a sterilized lithium ion battery.

Abstract: An implantable medical device comprising a battery cell including: an anode; a cathode including fluorinated carbon particles; a separator between the anode and the cathode; and an electrolyte contacting the anode, the cathode, and the separator; wherein greater than 50 vol-% of the fluorinated carbon particles have a particle size within a range of 2 microns to 10 microns, and greater than 50% by number have an aspect ratio within a range of 1:1.2 to 1:8.

Abstract: Separator and electrolyte composites include a porous self-supporting separator film between or adjacent one or two electrolyte films. The electrolyte films may contain a glyme or mixture of glymes, LiX salt and complexing agent, such as PEO. The porous self-supporting separator film may be used dry or wetted with a liquid electrolyte composition. Solid state batteries and electrochemical cells are disclosed that include the described separator and electrolyte composites in combination with an anode and a cathode.

Abstract: At least one electrochemical cell is charged to a predetermined voltage of the electrochemical cell using an external power source. A charging current of the at least one electrochemical cell is monitored. An increase in the charging current is detected at the predetermined voltage of the at least one electrochemical cell. It is determined that the at least one electrochemical cell is in danger of experiencing a performance decrease based on the detected increase in the charging current.

Abstract: In some examples, a host device includes a battery capacity and/or battery resistance predictive model. The host device may predict a battery capacity value and/or batter resistance value of a rechargeable battery and compare the predicted battery capacity and/or predicted battery resistance to a battery capacity value and/or battery resistance value stored in a fuel gauge. The host device may overwrite the battery capacity value and/or battery resistance value stored in the fuel gauge with the predicted battery capacity value and/or the predicted battery resistance value if the difference is greater than a maximum error threshold.
