Abstract: This disclosure relates to the monitoring and detection of corrosion and/or erosion of pipes, vessels, and other components in an industrial facility. The monitoring system may comprise of an arrangement of guided wave (GW) transducers and a longitudinal wave (LW) transducer affixed to the piping component to collectively measure for localized corrosion of the piping component without necessarily requiring a thickness map. The monitoring system may use an intelligent amplified multiplexer/switch to control the operation of the transducers that may be controlled and operated to generate waves in the kilohertz range and megahertz range with the same hardware.

Abstract: A gas sensor network system provides near real-time monitoring of fugitive emissions of VOC compounds in chemical plants and facilities. The present disclosure provides a sensor placement method which determines where to place sensors within a facility. The sensor placement method includes obtaining plant layout, gas composition, meteorological conditions and/or other types of information regarding a facility, determining the types of gas and ancillary sensors needed, and generating the minimum detection distances required based on the sensitivities of the sensors to the gas compounds involved. And, then calculating the minimal number of sensors required for each sensor type with optimized sensor locations to ensure best coverage of potentially leaking components within the facility.

Abstract: An ultrasonic measurement system includes abase apparatus, an ultrasonic transducer remote from the base apparatus, a temperature sensing system remote from the base apparatus, and an electrical cable. The base apparatus includes a power supply, a pulse transmitter/receiver; and a base apparatus controller operatively connected to the power supply and the pulse transmitter/receiver. The ultrasonic transducer includes a piezoelectric element. The temperature sensing system includes a temperature measurement instrument operatively connected to a temperature sensor. The electrical cable includes first and second electrical conductors with the first and second conductors electrically connecting the base apparatus, the ultrasonic transducer, and the temperature sensing system. A method of measuring a thickness of an object and a further measurement system are also provided.

Abstract: An area monitoring device is placed in a location to monitor volatile organic compounds emissions. The device includes a gas sensor capable of detecting VOCs, a sorbent material capable of absorbing VOC molecules, and a heating element positioned in close relation to, or in direct contact with, the sorbent material. After a period of time during which the sorbent material absorbs VOC molecules, the sorbent material is heated to cause the sorbent material to release a gas containing VOC molecules. The amount of released VOC molecules is sensed and calculated. Data is compiled and analyzed. This is accomplished without removing the device from the location. A pump may be provided to force ambient air through the device.
