    Abstract: A method for operating a radio communication device in a multi-watch mode is provided. The radio communication device receives communications on a primary channel and at least one non-primary channel. Further, a talk-back channel is enabled to respond to communications received on the primary channel. The radio communication device determines whether there is any transmission activity in response to a communication received on the non-primary channel. The radio communication device further determines whether the communication received on the non-primary channel comprises critical information when there is no transmission activity for a pre-defined time period since the communication was received on the non-primary channel. When the radio communication device determines that the communication received on the primary channel comprises critical information, the radio communication device switches to the talk-back channel to respond to communications received on the non-primary channel.

    Abstract: An improved fast wireless accessory device pairing process at a radio communication device includes initiating, via a first short-range transceiver, a pairing procedure with a wearable computing device and establishing a link with the wearable computing device. Subsequently, receiving Bluetooth device connection information for each of a plurality of wireless accessory devices associated with a wearer of the wearable computing device. The Bluetooth device connection information includes at least a hardware device identifier of the associated wireless accessory and capability information of the associated wireless accessory. Responsive to receiving the Bluetooth device connection information, and for each of the plurality wireless accessory devices, using the hardware device identifier and capability information to pair with and communicate with the wireless accessory device.

    Abstract: A method for automatically switching to a channel for transmission on a portable radio is provided. In operation, a first microphone is assigned to respond to communications received on a primary channel and a second microphone is assigned to respond to communications received on a non-primary channel. The portable radio receives independent audio communications simultaneously on the primary channel and the non-primary channel when operating in a multi-watch mode. The portable radio determines a signal gain corresponding to a voice command received at the first and second microphones. When the signal gain for the first microphone is larger than the signal gain for the second microphone, the portable radio switches to a first talk-back channel to respond to communications received on the primary channel. Otherwise, the portable radio switches to a second talk-back channel to respond to communications received on the at least one non-primary channel.
