An electrophotographic toner composition suitable for heat-fixation and showing good storage characteristics is constituted by polymer components, a colorant and a metal-containing organic compound. The toner composition shows a melt index (at 125.degree. A toner for developing an electrostatic image is constituted by a composition containing a binder resin component and a coloring agent, wherein the binder resin component contains a low-molecular weight component having a molecular weight of at most 5.times.10.sup.4 and a branching index g' of below 1. The low-molecular weight polymer component is preferably obtained by polymerizing a second monomer in mixture with a prepolymer in the presence of a polymerization initiator comprising a peroxide having a functional group of: ##STR1## and mixed with a high-molecular weight polymer component obtained by polymerization in the presence of a poly-functional polymerization initiator, and a low-molecular weight wax. The resultant toner is characterized by a good balance between the fixability and anti-offset characteristic.

A toner for developing electrostatic images, includes toner particles and 10-500 isolated low-molecular weight wax particles per 10,000 toner particles. The toner has a melt index as measured at 125.degree. C. under a load of 98 N of at least 10. The toner particles comprise at least a binder resin, a colorant and the low-molecular weight wax. The low-molecular weight wax comprises a compound represented by the formula of: R--Y, wherein R denotes a hydrocarbon group, and Y denotes a hydroxyl group, carboxyl group, alkyl ether group or alkyl ester group. The low-molecular weight wax has a thermal property providing a DSC curve as measured by a differential scanning calorimeter exhibiting: (i) a maximum heat-absorption peak having a peak temperature in a temperature range of 70.degree.-130.degree. C.; (ii) a heat-absorption peak including the maximum heat-absorption peak showing an onset temperature of at least 50.degree. C., and (iii) a maximum heat-evolution peak in a range of .+-.15.degree. C. from the peak temperature of the maximum hat-absorption peak. The toner shows a good fixability while retaining a good productivity through the melt-kneading-pulverization process.

A frictional electrification property is such that the absolute value of the frictional electrification amount relative to an iron powder of 250 mesh-pass to 350 mesh-on is 25 to 40 mc/kg. Assuming that for particle distribution of the magnetic toner a weight-average particle diameter (D.sub.4) for the magnetic toner is X (.mu.m) and that a count % in a count distribution of magnetic toner particles that have a diameter of 3.17 .mu.m or smaller is Y (%), expressions (1) and (2) are satisfied:-5X+35.ltoreq.Y.ltoreq.-25X+180 (1)3.5.ltoreq.X.ltoreq.6.5 (2).Sphericity (.psi.) of particles is equal to or greater than 0.80 and a product (.sigma..sub.r .times.H.sub.c) of remanence �.sigma..sub.r (Am.sup.2 /kg)! and coercive force (H.sub.c (kA/m)! of the magnetic substance in a magnetic field of 795.8 kA/m (10 k oersted) is 10 to 56 (kA.sup.2 m/kg).
