    Abstract: The invention relates to a shower control valve assembly which includes a casing mountable in a wall with inlets for hot and cold water. A cartridge is insertable into the casing in one of two orientations so that the hot water inlet of the cartridge can be aligned with either one of the casing inlets, depending on which one is the hot water inlet. The casing has two outlets, one for the shower and the other for the tub. There is an integral bypass which takes water from the tub outlet to the shower outlet upon activation of a diverter valve. The cartridge is of the pressure and temperature balancing type, with water of the desired temperature flowing to the tub outlet and then to the tub or shower as desired. Each water inlet in the cartridge includes a check valve which, in one position allows water to enter the cartridge, and in the other position prevents water from leaving the cartridge through the inlet. This feature prevents cross flow of hot and cold water, prevents back flow into the supply pipes and, most significantly, prevents water hammer in the supply pipes.

    Abstract: The invention provides a quick-acting shut-off valve for hydraulic installations, particularly for pressure balanced mixing valves such as might be used in a shower/tub installation. The shut-off valve includes a casing mounted to the installation housing adjacent an inlet port thereof, there being a reciprocable actuator sealingly retained within the casing for direct movement between first and second positions. The actuator carries a valve member at a distal end thereof for sealingly blocking the inlet port when the actuator is in its second position. When the actuator is in its first position the inlet port is open to normal water flow therethrough. The actuator utilizes a simple push-on, push-off ratchet mechanism to effect movement between the two operating positions thereof. The shut-off valve is readily accessible for quick operation and, when the installation needs repair, it is not necessary to locate a master control valve to terminate water flow to the installation, thereby maintaining water flow to other installations in the same hydraulic circuit.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a shower control valve assembly which includes a casing mountable in a wall with inlets for hot and cold water. A cartridge is insertable into the casing in one of two orientations so that the hot water inlet of the cartridge can be aligned with either one of the casing inlets, depending on which one is the hot water inlet. The casing has at least one outlet for transporting mixed water to the tub and a diverter passage is connected to the outlet for transporting mixed water to the shower. An insert is positioned in the outlet and has a counterweighted butterfly valve member therein, the valve member being normally in an open position allowing water to flow to the tub. A rod member extends laterally of the insert and is reciprocable so as to contact the upstream wing of the valve member and force it into the stream of water flowing to the tub. The stream forces the valve member to a closed position and then the flowing water is forced to follow the diverter passage to the shower. When the water is turned off, the counterweight forces the valve member to resume its open condition. The rod member is rotatable and cooperates with appropriate means in the insert to effectively throttle water flowing to the shower to act as a volume control therefor.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a shower control valve assembly which includes a casing mountable in a wall with inlets for hot and cold water. A cartridge is insertable into the casing in one of two orientations so that the hot water inlet of the cartridge can be aligned with either one of the casing inlets, depending on which one is the hot water inlet. The thickness of the valve disc at each port diminishes from a maximum to a minimum and a cam surface is provided adjacent each port. Within each passage is an axially movable seat member that has an annular surface in constant contact with the cam surface and an opposite annular surface that is sealable against an O-ring held by a snap seal member to prevent water flow through the seat member and the mixing valve disc. The snap seal member allows water flow therepast and is biased towards the disc, but when the axially movable seat member is in sealing contact with the O-ring, no water can pass to or through the valve disc. With this configuration wear is minimized and it is not necessary to use toxic lubricants to maintain smooth action of the valve disc.

    Abstract: A temperature- and flow-control valve has a housing defining a mixing chamber and having at least one outlet extending from the mixing chamber and a pair of inlets. A valve cartridge in the housing connected to the inlets opens into the mixing chamber and has a temperature-control element displaceable between an end off position with the cartridge blocking any flow from the inlets through the cartridge to the chamber through intermediate on positions with different ratios of flow from the inlets to the mixing chamber. A flow-control unit in the housing between the cartridge and the outlet includes a flow-control element displaceable between a position for maximum flow from the cartridge to the outlet and a position for restricted flow from the cartridge to the outlet. A link assembly in the housing couples the temperature-control element to the flow-control element for returning the flow-control element to the maximum-flow position on displacement of the temperature control element into the off position.
