A travelling piecer provides a fixed length of yarn to be back-fed into the spinning unit. A control which is responsive to the speed of rotation of the spinning unit causes the nip rolls to close together in order to deliver the new yarn from the spinning unit at the operating speed of the spinning unit.

The travelling piecer is constructed to accomodate piecing of a thread which is broken during winding onto a thread package or to accomodate starting of a fresh package on a bobbin. The piecer includes a suction nozzle to find a broken yarn end from a package, a centering mechanism for positioning the located yarn in a predetermined position and a threading device for forming the located yarn into a loop.A carrier for an auxiliary yarn package is also provided with a roller pair for feeding a yarn from a package and a second suction nozzle for manipulating the auxiliary yarn into a predetermined position extending from the first nozzle for interception by the centering mechanism.

An apparatus for arranging cross-wound packages, wound on a spinning machine, upon an auxiliary transport belt which is aligned with a main transport belt extending longitudinally of the spinning machine and serving for carrying away the cross-wound packages. One end of the auxiliary transport belt adjoins one neighboring confronting end of the main transport belt. A detector is actuated by the cross-wound packages moved by the transport belt and initiates starting of the auxiliary transport belt upon the arrival of a cross-wound package. Also, there is provided a stopping device for the auxiliary transport belt, whereby the latter is stopped after it has moved through a distance at least approximately equal to the bobbin length. The currently known continuous sliding of the transport belt under the full cross-wound packages is thus avoided. There is also avoided that the thread layers of the cross-wound packages entangle with one another or come to lie at the end faces of the cross-wound packages which would severely impede unwinding thereof or even make such unwinding impossible.

A suction means and a severing means are located behind the friction drive drum to receive a yarn when the bobbin holder is lifted into a idling position and to sever the yarn when the holder is returned to the operating position with a fresh tube in place. The suction means and severing means are actuated via the holder and are positioned to one end of the fresh tube so that the short yarn end can be wound onto the tube in a reserve winding zone. The yarn is thereafter moved into the usual yarn traversing zone of the tube to form a bobbin.

The suction and cooling system includes a first collecting channel and an independent second collecting channel and exhaust means coupled to the first collecting channel and exhaust means coupled to the second collecting channel. The first exhaust means draw a first air stream into the first collecting channel from primarily the area around the drafting system of the spinning units. The first air stream comprises primarily reusable fibers and a filter may be provided for filtering out the reusable fibers. The second exhaust means draws an independent second air stream from primarily the area around the thread guiding device of the spinning units and from around the spindle drive means, thereby serving the dual function of collecting waste fly and cooling the spindle drive means. A second filter device may be provided in the second collecting channel for removing generally waste fiber fly material.

The travelling piecer carries a lever to separate the nip rollers, a yarn reserve forming device to receive the yarn and a threading device for threading a broken yarn from a package between the nip rolls and through the yarn reserve forming device. A travelling service device of a yarn processing machine is equipped with a bobbin magazine for receiving a multitude of sticks of conical bobbin tubes which are telescopically nested within one another. The magazine includes a conveyor belt which extends along and can be moved in an endless path and which carries a multitude of bounding elements which bound respective compartments, each for receiving one of the sticks for movement with the belt. At a predetermined location of the endless path, there is provided an arrangement for removing the respective stick from the associated compartment, and for transferring such stick to an arrangement for separating the individual tubes from the stick for subsequent feeding to the respective station of the machine. The compartments may be arranged so that their axes extend normal to the trajectory of movement of the travelling service device, in whic case the removing arrangement includes an arrangement for turning te stick through 90.degree. in a horizontal plane before the transfer to the separating arrangement, or so that their axes are parallel to the trajectory, in which case no such turning arrangement is needed. The magazine may be hingedly mounted on the service device for displacement between two end positions in one of which it conceals, and in the other of which it exposes, an end wall of the service device.
