Abstract:
Method and apparatus for efficient routing of mobile node packets. Nodes in a network are configured to classify a received flow from a mobile node to a second node based upon a home address option in a packet in the flow if the address is present. The address is a home address of the mobile node. The classification has associated reserved resources at each node for the received flow. Therefore, the Quality of Service is maintained for the flow between the mobile node and the second node if the mobile node moves to a new location. Resources reserved in nodes in the old path are torn down and released, while reserved resources in nodes in the old and the new path need not be reserved again.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to provision of data bearers in a communication system (2) comprising a first node (1) and a second node (4). A message is generated that associates with provision of control of a data bearer between the nodes (1,4), said message being based on a data bearer control protocol. Information that associates with responsibilities regarding a quality of service function of the data bearer is included in the message. The message is then transported between the nodes (1,4). The quality of service function of the data bearer is controlled by a control node (1,16) that has been selected based on said information added in the message.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method and a communication system comprising at least one first network element connectable to a second network element. At least one of the first and second network elements use one of two or more selectable modes for communicating with another network element. One or both of the network elements, or a third network element, which is connectable with the first and second network elements, performs a mode selection procedure for selecting the same mode for bidirectional communication between the network elements. The modes preferably are different codec types, channel-coding schemes, or radio interface protocol types. The first and/or second network elements may be portable terminal equipments and the third network element preferably is a support node or a means providing a support function such as a CSCF. The mode selection ensures use of one and the same mode, such as a codec, in uplink and downlink directions enabling IP telephony in UMTS using SIP protocol.
Abstract:
In a communication system a procedure is initiated to establish a communication connection for a user equipment. A data bearer may be established via one or more nodes of the communication system for the user equipment before the communication connection procedure is completed. An instruction is signalled to at least one of the nodes associated with the data bearer to prevent transportation of data to or from the user equipment using the data bearer. Based on the instruction, transportation of data to or from the user equipment is prevented until the communication connection establishment procedure has been completed. According to a further aspect, an indication is signalled to at least one of the nodes that the communication connection establishment procedure is completed. Charging record unit associated with charging of data transportation prior said completion are closed in response to the signal.
Abstract:
A signaling regimen between a mobile station MS, a radio node RN, and a packet data switching node PDSN enables a quality parameter to be applied to packets moving between a mobile and a CDMA2000 network. The MS creates a new flow for packets of a certain data type and sends a related quality parameter for that flow to the BS. The BS determines whether an existing or new service instance will carry the new flow, and obtains authorization for the service instance to meet the quality parameter from the PDSN. The BS or PDSN builds a map between flow and a policy that ensures the quality is met, and the map is used to place different packets into the appropriate flow and service instance. Policies and enforcement may differ on uplink and downlink.
Abstract:
A technique for providing a voice traffic indication in a communication network includes creating a request to set up a communication session in a first network element of the network, the request including a voice traffic indication. The request is then forwarded to a second network element which detects the voice traffic indication in the forwarded request. The second network element then sets up the communication session in response to the request taking into account that voice traffic is to be transferred. The communication channel may include a PDP context. The second network element may be one of an SGSN, a GGSN, or an RNC. The first network element may include an MS.
Abstract:
A method and a communication system which includes a first network element, e.g. portable terminal, connectable to a second network element. One of selectable modes is used for communication. A network element is adapted to perform a mode selection procedure for selecting the same mode for bidirectional communication between the network elements. The mode selection ensures the use of one and the same mode in uplink and downlink direction and thus enables e.g. IP telephony in UMTS using SIP protocol. The invention provides for facilitating a VoIP communication session by way of a radio link with a mobile station. The mobile station forms a QoS (Quality of Service) information element for communication to a radio access network portion. The QoS information element is indicating whether to remove packet header information of the data packets to be communicated upon the radio link pursuant to the communication session.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method and system for early compression of a header portion of data packet(s) transmitted after establishment of a packet data connection. A compression information is obtained from a signaling used to establish at least a part of said packet data connection, and is used for the early compression of the header portion. Thereby, even the first data packet(s) can header-compressed to thereby enhance compression efficiency and reduce delay in transmission-window based packet connections with a slow start phase.
Abstract:
A method of providing Mobile IP functionality for a non Mobile IP capable mobile node by a switching device by proxy, wherein a first address (HOA) and a second address (SA) are being allocated to said mobile node (MN), said method comprising the steps of: utilizing said first address (HOA) for non Mobile IP based communication legs by routing data to a home agent (HA) of a home network of said mobile node (MN); discovering an address of said home agent (HA) by said switching device; advertising said second address (SA) as care-of-address (CA) with respect to said first address (HOA) by said switching device to said home agent (HA); and utilizing said second address (SA) for Mobile IP based communication legs by routing data to said switching device (GGSN/MIP PROXY).
