摘要: A set of surgical products which includes an attachment mechanism for modular surgical products. The set includes a plurality of first components and a plurality of second components. One of the first components and one of the second components are to be selected for engagement with each other. The components each include an indexing means including a key on the first components and a corresponding slot on the second components for mating with the key. The orientations of the keys and slots vary, so that only first components having a key orientation that is similar to and aligns with the slot orientation of a second component will properly mate together and so that first components will not properly align and mate with second components having slot orientations that are different from the respective key orientation.

摘要: An orthopaedic prosthesis for implanation in a bone, the prosthesis including a collar extending outwardly therefrom. The collar includes an access recess aligned above the bone cement when the stem is implanted with cement in bone, or aligned above the bone/implant interface when the stem is biologically affixed to the bone. The access recess may be a dimple partially extending into the collar or it may be a through hole. The dimple provides a preset drill start for a drill to be aligned therewith for drilling through the collar to form a hole therethrough. In either case, whether starting with a dimple and then forming a hole or starting directly with a through hole, the hole may be progressively enlarged by use of sequentially larger drill sizes. Tools, such as chisels or the like, are inserted through the hole in the collar to break up the bone cement beneath the collar if a cemented stem, or to help break the bond between the stem and the bone if a biologically affixed stem, to help loosen the prosthesis from the bone to facilitate removal of the stem. A method of removing such a prosthesis is also disclosed.

摘要: An implant fixation stem has a distal portion with a controlled stiffness. In one embodiment the deflection in response to a given force is equal to other similarly designed stems to give a surgeon consistent implantation feedback regardless of implant size. The deflection is preferably provided via a slot in the stem, the slot length being determined as a function of the stem's moment of inertia. Alternate embodiments provide for flutes of unequal length.

摘要: The present invention relates to a prosthetic interpositional device/coupler designed to be interposed between the neck and head of a femoral prosthesis. One example of a contemplated environment of use of the inventive interpositional device/coupler is in the situation where the prosthesis has a neck of one material and a head of another material. The inventive interpositional device/coupler may be made with an outer wall having a taper designed to match the taper of the head and with an inner wall having a taper designed to match the taper of the neck. These tapers may differ. Additionally, the inner and outer surfaces may have different surface textures from one another so as to make the respective walls compatible with the surface texture of the material of which the adjacent structure, head or neck, is made. Three embodiments of the inventive interpositional device/coupler are disclosed. The third embodiment is similar to the second embodiment except that the end wall is much thicker than the end wall in the second embodiment so that the device is greater in length than the second embodiment. The first embodiment does not include an end wall and may be shorter in length than either the second or third embodiment.
