摘要: An orthopaedic prosthesis for use in a hip replacement surgery. The orthopaedic prosthesis includes an elongated stem component that has a proximal body, a neck extending superiorly and medially from the proximal body and a tapered stem extending inferiorly from the proximal body. An anchor is positioned on the neck and is configured to be engaged by a surgical instrument. A system for use in assembling the orthopaedic prosthesis and a method of assembly are also disclosed.

摘要: A femur supporting device includes a femoral stem having a plurality of inclined passages. The femoral stem includes an inner side and an outer side. Each inclined passage includes an outlet in the inner side and an inlet in the outer side. Each inclined passage inclines upward from the inlet to the outlet. A plurality of supporting rods extends through the inclined passages. A first engaging end of each supporting rod extends out of the outlet of one of the inclined passages. A second engaging end of each supporting rod extends out of the inlet of one of the inclined passages. The first engaging end of each supporting rod is engaged with one of a plurality of first engaging portions in a trochanter head. The second engaging end of each supporting rod is engaged with one of a plurality of second engaging portions of a fixing unit.

摘要: An implantable medical device, for implantation in a mammal knee joint, comprising an artificial contacting surface adapted to replace at least one contacting surface of the knee joint and to be lubricated when implanted in said joint. The medical device further comprises a reservoir comprising a movable wall portion defining the volume of the reservoir, at least one inlet adapted to receive a lubricating fluid from the reservoir, at least one channel at least partly integrated in said artificial contacting surface, wherein the channel is fluidly connected with said at least one inlet for distributing said lubricating fluid to the surface of said artificial contacting surface. The medical device further comprises an operation device adapted to non-invasively transport said lubricating fluid from said reservoir to said artificial contacting surface, and an implantable injection port for refilling said reservoir, wherein the movable wall portion is moved when the reservoir is refilled, such that the volume of the reservoir is increased.

摘要: A system and method for improving mechanical assemblies, such as prosthetic implants, intended to be installed in living tissue such as bone. Force-imparting devices are adapted and may include angularity, which may be introduced with specialized additive manufacturing, which may impart congruent cross-sections while providing variable stiffness. In some cases, the variable stiffness may be “stretchy” in a longitudinal direction and “rigid” in a radial directional which may provide an assembly bias. Additive manufacturing may allow the material of a prosthesis to be varied (e.g., density/porosity) to create variable stiffness over a length.

摘要: An orthopaedic hip prosthesis system is disclosed. The orthopaedic hip prosthesis system comprises a femoral head component configured to articulate with a natural or prosthetic acetabulum of a patient, the femoral head component having a tapered bore formed therein, a femoral stem component having a tapered trunnion configured to be received in the tapered bore of the femoral head component, and a shell positioned over the tapered trunnion of the femoral stem component. The shell includes a frame extending over the tapered trunnion, and a protective coating applied to the frame and the tapered trunnion. A method of performing an orthopaedic surgery is also disclosed.

摘要: A package for receiving an adapter sleeve for a hip endoprosthesis, the hip endoprosthesis comprising a ball head which has to be pushed onto the adapter sleeve with a defined pushing-on force. For simplification and secure fastening of the ball head on the adapter sleeve, it is proposed according to the invention that a device for the mounting of the ball head on the adapter sleeve is integrated in the package and this device comprises indicating elements which indicate that the defined pushing-on force has been reached when the ball head is pressed onto the adapter sleeve. Preferably the package has indicating elements.

摘要: A medical device for fixation in a femoral bone of a patient is provided, the medical device comprises: a connecting portion adapted to be connected to a prosthetic hip joint contacting portion, an expanding portion, and a bone contacting surface on the expanding portion. The expanding portion could be adapted to be at least partially inserted into the femoral bone of a patient and to expand within the femoral bone, such that the bone contacting surface is placed in contact with the inside of the femoral bone for fixating the medical device to the femoral bone. By the fixation using an expanding portion a sturdy fixation is achieved without the need to go into or penetrate bone, or the need for fixation using bone cement.

摘要: A tooling system and method is disclosed for removing a head portion of a modular implant from a stem portion of the implant. The tooling system can include first and second tools configured to releasably mate together when the upper and lower tools are in an assembled position, and a holder configured to releasably secure the first and second tools in the assembled position. The first and second tools can be inserted between the head portion and an adaptor of the stem portion. When the first and second tools are rotated in opposite directions, the first tool can exert pressure on the head portion of the implant sufficient to release the head portion from locked engagement with the adaptor. The first and second tools can include mating features that disengage from each other as the tools are rotated in opposite directions.
