摘要: A method comprises pulling a continuous web to advance the web along a path of conveyance and to create tension in a lengthwise portion of the web; manipulating the web to cause the portion of the web at a point along the path to have a non-uniform tension across the width of the web, with a maximum tension being at a location spaced from the first longitudinal edge of the web, and with the tension decreasing from such location toward the first longitudinal edge of the web such that a zone in the web at the first longitudinal edge has reduced tension; and controlling transverse positioning of the first longitudinal edge in the zone of reduced tension. The reduced-tension zone is produced by a tension-reducing member about which the web is pulled.

摘要: A system and method for estimating calibration parameters and locating a Calibration Earth Station (CES) is described. The method may be performed offline. The method includes: providing L×M pilot signal measurements in a matrix R from L CESs and the M feed elements, wherein the matrix R comprises a set of channel coefficients c={c1, c2, . . . , cM}, and k={k1, k2, . . . , kL} perturbations; linking a subset of channel coefficients {c1, c2, . . . , cM} using each of the L CESs; and estimating a relative estimate of the k={k1, k2, . . . , kL} pertubations across the L CESs by using each of the L CESs as a bridging element. In the method, the bridging element provides a strong pilot signal for at least two of the L CESs. A set of criteria for determining locations of CESs have been described. A set of desirable properties for the solution set of L CESs have been disclosed. A combination of inner loop and outer loop methods for determining the final set of optimal locations have been described.

摘要: A ceramic core for use in casting an article such as for example an airfoil, wherein the ceramic core has a pocket located at or near a region of the core that is otherwise associated with occurrence of a localized casting defect in the cast article. A covering is disposed on the core to cover the pocket and provide core outer surface features.

摘要: A reinforced core for use in metal casting processes, especially directional solidification casting processes, comprises an elongated, thin-walled outer quartz or silica rich tubular member and a carbon base reinforcement disposed in and extending along a length of the tubular member. The carbon base reinforcement can comprise one or more graphite rods cemented together in end-to-end relation or a carbon fiber bundle. The carbon base reinforcement can include an outer carbide surface region by coating or surface reaction.

摘要: A reinforced ceramic investment casting shell mold and method of making such mold. The ceramic investment casting shell mold includes alternate, repeating layers of a ceramic material and a ceramic stucco defining an overall thickness of the shell mold. A fibrous reinforcing material is disposed in the alternate, repeating layers at an intermediate thickness of the shell mold. The fibrous reinforcing material has high tensile strength at elevated temperature and a coefficient of thermal expansion that is less than the coefficient of thermal expansion of the ceramic material and the ceramic stucco. The fibrous reinforcing material is preferably woven into a twisted yarn and disposed in a generally spiral configuration.

摘要: An approach is provided for distributing multi-media information from a satellite broadcast system. A hub receives a signal from the satellite broadcast system, wherein the signal represents video information and audio information associated with multiple broadcast channels. The hub centrally demodulates and decodes the received signal for distribution to one of a number of access point devices. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the decoded signal represents uncompressed video and audio information corresponding to one of the broadcast channels. The access point devices convert the received decoded signal for output respective displays (e.g., television sets). The hub can also be equipped with an interface to provide access to a public data network, such as the global Internet. Further, the hub can be supplied with a digital video recording capability.
