The method includes the steps of: providing at least two sensors; fixing a set constant distances (Δl) between the sensors such that the relative distances between sensors are fixed and free from adjustment; and measuring the dimensional parameter based upon a ratio (Δt2/Δt1) of a first time segment (Δt1) and a second time segment (Δt2), whereby no adjustment of the relative distance between sensors is required.

A method and apparatus are provided for registering (unsynchronized) remote units with a multipoint communications system. An upstream multi-access channel (UMAC) is defined, over which non-registered remote units may transmit registration requests and related data. Non-registered remote units may transmit over the UMAC channel at any time independent of upstream transmissions from other remote units already registered with the network. To effect registration, the non-registered remote unit transmits a standardized asynchronous transmission sequence (ATS) signal over the UMAC channel. The ATS signal is "standardized" as it contains a predefined leading segment, the format for which is known to the head end unit. The ATS signal also contains a data segment that may be unique to the remote unit (e.g., it may uniquely identify the remote unit and/or request registration). The head end unit continuously monitors the UMAC channel and identifies an incoming ATS signal when it detects a predetermined sequence of amplitude and/or phase shifts in the incoming signal over the UMAC channel. The head end unit synchronizes the ATS signal therewith by identifying a reference point in the ATS signal based on known amplitude and/or phase shift(s) in the incoming signal. Once the ATS signal is synchronized, the head end unit obtains the data segment therefrom and registers the requesting remote unit.

A system and apparatus for treating and disposing of produced water in conjunction with flared gas, thereby avoiding problems associated with injecting produced water back into subsurface strata. The system is installed at or near the wellhead where produced water being treated is at a higher temperatures. Produced water is treated with ozone injection in a scrubber with heat applied through a flare gas field burner, which uses field gas from oilfield operations. A wet scrubber unit with scrubber packing is used to clean emissions. A produced water pump is used to circulate produced water, and pump produced water through spray nozzles in the scrubber unit for use as the wet scrubbing agent. As produced water evaporates, evaporated salts and solids are continuously removed from the evaporator/scrubber unit by appropriate means, such as an auger system. The evaporated salts and solids are then treated via chemical stabilization in a mixing system with chemical reagents to prevent the residual form from being hazardous. The residual material is then stored and disposed of properly.

On-site measurements and calculations of clay stabilization replacement, through a Potassium Chloride (KCl) Equivalency calculation, provide feedback on water constituent adjustments that may be needed just prior to the gel-based hydraulic fracturing process. This assures adequate gel cross-linking times, delayed gel cross-linking times, and clay stabilization in the formation to be fractured.

A guide rail and a frame with attached rollers and equipment hold-downs, platforms or carts allow for easy access, retrieval, and storage of equipment in the bed of a vehicle. A frame extends out the back of a pickup for access to equipment, and folds into a vertical position for improved use of the pickup bed. A brake system prevents locks the sliding frame in place until the brake is released by a brake lever.
