摘要: A plurality of corrugated plates are arranged in parallel relationship with corrugations in adjacent plates extending in a criss-crossing pattern to form a packing element for a heat exchange or mass transfer column. The plates are spaced closer together by providing reliefs in adjacent plates at the points of intersection between the criss-crossing corrugations. The reliefs allow the corrugations on the adjacent plates to extend into each other to reduce the spacing between the plates. The reliefs may be in the form of apertures or recesses.

摘要: A hollow, saddle-shaped packing structure 14 includes a pair of porous outer and inner semi-cylindrical side walls 22, 34 that are spaced from one another to define an interior space 40, and a particulate catalyst component 20 retained in the interior space between the side walls. The packing structure may be formed by a pair of saddle-shaped shell elements 16, 18, each of which presents one of the side walls and a pair of radially opposed laterally extending flanges 26, 38. The flanges are connected together by tabs 30, 32, welding, or the like, and the interior space between axially spaced marginal edges 24, 36 of the outer and inner shell elements is closed off to retain the particulate catalyst component between the side walls.

摘要: A motionless mixer for use in mixing flow streams in a conduit and a low-cost method of manufacturing the motionless mixer, which method comprises: cutting, such as by stamping, an elongated strip from a flat sheet, which strip comprises a plurality of connected, semielliptical blade elements; bending the strip at the connecting point between the blade elements, to form a plurality of blades at an angle of about 30.degree.-45.degree. to each other in the strip; providing first and second strips and aligning the first and second strips in a generally parallel arrangement; twisting the said first and second strips into a cooperative relationship, wherein each pair of blade elements is disposed at an angle of about 90.degree. with respect to each other pair of blade elements; securing the blade elements together such as by welding at the crossover point of the pair of blade elements, to provide a motionless mixer; and inserting the motionless mixer in a conduit.

摘要: A method of radio frequency communication for a life safety device including a controller, a hazardous condition sensor, an alarm device, and a radio frequency communications device including transmitting and receiving capability. One method includes receiving a test signal using the radio frequency communications device, lowering a voltage to the hazardous condition sensor to simulate a hazardous condition to test the hazardous condition sensor, and emitting an alarm using the alarm device if the hazardous condition sensor passes the test. Another method includes before transmitting a radio frequency signal, turning on the radio frequency communications device for a period of time, and delaying transmission if the radio frequency communications device receives a header, deadtime and startbit. Yet another method includes sending a test signal at a first transmission power level, and sending an alarm signal at a second transmission power level greater than the first transmission power level.

摘要: An improved vapor-liquid contact grid apparatus which maximizes the generation of small drops and which is inexpensive to manufacture and easy to construct is disclosed. The grid apparatus consists of multiple layered grids, each grid being formed of upright grid members and connectors. The grid members carry vanes, formed from the member itself by a process of slitting and bending, which vanes extend out into the region between the upright grid members, thus restricting vapor passage, providing drip points and increasing the effective surface area for gas-liquid exchange. The grid members and connectors are arranged in an "egg carton" -like fashion to provide a simple, yet sturdy, grid.

摘要: A flame detector system includes an ultraviolet sensor to detect ultraviolet radiation, and a microcontroller coupled to the ultraviolet sensor. The microcontroller processes output from the ultraviolet sensor to identify a flame. The system can also include a HV supply circuit to constantly refresh a drive voltage of the sensor. The microcontroller can sense when the sensor discharges and thereupon immediately refresh the sensor. The microcontroller can also monitor a run time for the sensor and adjust a drive voltage for the sensor accordingly. Further, a background count can be monitored to determine the health of the sensor. A memory can also be provided to store data associated with the detector, and a communications module can communicate the data stored in the memory to an external device. The microcontroller calculates a filtered event count and compares the filtered event count to a threshold to determine if a flame is present.
