摘要: An optical disc is rotated at no more than 600 revolutions per minute (RPM) using a spindle motor of an optical disc device (602). One or more input signals are received from one or more sensors disposed within the optical disc device (604). The sensors are responsive to rotation of the optical disc. Virtual spoke signals are generated based on the input signals received from the sensors (606). The optical disc is positionally controlled based on the virtual spoke signals generated, as the optical disc rotates at no more than 600 RPM (612). The virtual spoke signals correspond to actual, physical spokes that would otherwise have to be present on the optical disc to positionally control the optical disc as the optical disc rotates at no more than 600 RPM.

摘要: An optical disc is rotated using a spindle motor of an optical disc device, at no more than 600 revolutions per minute (RPM). The spindle motor has at least three coil groups, where each coil group has one or more coils. While the optical disc is rotating, at least one of the coil groups generates a back electromagnetic force (EMF) signal. The back EMF signal is used to determine marking positions on the optical disc. An optical beam is used to mark the optical disc at the determined marking positions.

摘要: Turbulators are disclosed for use in a high-stage generator for an exhaust-fired absorption chiller/heater. The turbulators are designed to minimize pressure drop across the turbulator, and thus minimize the efficiency loss to the exhaust source. One turbulator design has a number of flanges extending at a non-normal angle to a central web. Further, some of the flanges have cutout portions. The overall turbulator design is intended to minimize wake downstream of the turbulator blades, which could otherwise cause undesirable pressure drop. A second turbulator design incorporates flanges that extend at a normal angle relative to the central web, but wherein the flanges have a non-rectangular cross-sectional shape. Again, the goal of the turbulator designs here is to minimize wake, and potential pressure drop.

摘要: A method, apparatus, and medium for determining actuator signals for focusing a laser on a label surface of an optical disc. A plurality of virtual angular sectors are defined on the label surface. A single rotation of the disc is performed. During the rotation, the focus of the laser is sinusoidally swept from a baseline once per sector. During the rotation, a SUM signal indicative of a degree of focus of the laser on the label surface is measured at a plurality of angular positions of each sector. The actuator signals are derived from the measured SUM signals.

摘要: A system and method for labeling with a laser an optical disc having a plurality of markable locations. Signals indicative of a focus of the laser to the disc are measured, while rotating the disc at a constant angular velocity. Focus positions for designated ones of the locations to be marked on the disk are determined from the measured signals. The designated locations are marked with the laser while rotating the disc at a constant linear velocity and positioning the laser at the corresponding focus position. For at least some radial positions of the laser, an angular velocity corresponding to the constant linear velocity is less than the constant angular velocity.

摘要: A system, method, and medium for forming a visible label on an optical disc. Label data for a label track of the disc is received into a buffer of a disc drive. The label data is analyzed to identify the label track. A surface contour of the disc is mapped only near the label track. Focus actuator signals for the label track are derived using the surface contour. The label track is marked, with a laser of the disc drive, according to the label data while the laser is focusing the focus actuator signals.
