In a preferred embodiment, an optical converter regulates the irradiance in the object plane as a function of field angle by varying the power radiated along a line of diffuse light projected onto the object plane.

    摘要： A system for handling effluent from a film processor. A transportable holding tank is attached to the film processor using quick-disconnect fittings, and accepts effluent discharged from the film processor by gravity. The holding tank is uncoupled from the film processor and coupled to a receiving station with quick-disconnect fittings similar to those on the film processor. The effluent is pumped into the receiving station. The system is designed to minimize exposure to film processing chemicals, and handles parallel segregated streams of silver-bearing and non silver-bearing effluent.

    摘要： A method for inhibiting the activity of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in vivo comprises administering to a human host an antimalarial drug, which is capable of exhibiting a protective effect, a curative effect, or of preventing transmission of malaria in humans. The antimalarial drug is selected from the group consisting of(a) alkaloids;(b) 9-amino-acridines;(c) 4-aminoquinolines;(d) 8-aminoquinolines;(e) biguanides;(f) dihyrofolate reductase inhibitors;(g) sulfones;(h) sulfonamides;(i) mefloquine;(i) halofantrine;(k) hydroxyanilino-benzo-naphtyridines; and(l) sesquiterpene lactones.The antimalarial drug is administered to the human in an amount sufficient to prevent or at least inhibit infection of T lymphocytes by HIV in vivo or to prevent or at least inhibit replication of HIV in vivo.

    摘要： An input scanner is disclosed which is adapted to scan an image on an original, such as a radiographic film, and to form a digital representation of the image. The scanner comprises a transparent platen for supporting the film, a light source under the platen, and a plurality of linear arrays of photosensitive elements located above the platen for receiving light transmitted through the film. In order to improve the signal-to-noise ratio and the dynamic range of the scanner, the signals from adjacent photosensitive elements in the arrays are processed by a combination of analog and digital summing. Different levels of spatial resolution can be selected electronically without changing the physical disposition of the scanner elements.
