摘要:
A system cuts media printed with phase change ink in a manner that reduces the ink debris produced by cutting solidified ink. The system includes a heater configured to heat phase change ink on the media moving through the heater to a temperature at which the ink is malleable, the temperature being above room temperature and below a temperature at which phase change ink melts, and a cutter configured to receive the media after the media has been heated by the heater and to cut the media. The blade of the cutter may also be heated to facilitate media cutting with a reduced likelihood of solid ink debris being generated.

A solid or phase change inkjet ink incorporating a polar acidic wax is described. The use of polar waxes as an ink additive improves the polarity of the ink and adhesion of the ink to paper. A method for applying the solid or phase change ink incorporating an acidic polar wax additive to form an image is also described.

An imaging device includes a media supply and handling system configured to move media along a path. A printing system is disposed along the path that includes at least one printhead for applying melted phase-change ink of at least one color to the media to form images thereon. A fixing assembly is disposed along the path downstream of the printing system that is configured to apply heat and/or pressure to the melted phase change ink of the images on the media. A coating system is disposed along the path downstream from the spreader. The coating system includes at least one printhead for applying a clear ink on top of the images formed on the media by the printing station.

A folding system includes a media pathway configured to transport a print substrate having phase change ink thereon. The folding system includes a folding apparatus disposed along the media pathway configured to fold the print substrate. A folding heater is configured to heat the phase change ink on the print media to a folding temperature. The folding temperature is above ambient temperature and below a melting temperature for phase change ink.

A preview still video image, comprising a smaller number of binary bits to expedite digital transmission, is constructed block-by-block from a full-quality still video image by (a) sampling every n video pixels in each horizontal video line of each block and averaging between adjacent ones of the sampled pixels, and (b) sampling every m horizontal video lines in each block and averaging between adjacent ones of the sampled lines. An image is reconstructed from the preview image by using a buffer which temporarily stores the last video line in each block, and interpolating it with the first line in the next block, as well as interpolating all subsequent adjacent line pairs in the block. Adjacent pairs of the sampled pixels in each line are also interpolated. The image thus reconstructed comprises as many pixels and horizontal lines as the full-quality image.

Methods and devices for forming, such as by printing, high quality, high throughput, ultraviolet curable gel ink images on corrugated substrates for packaging applications are disclosed. The methods and devices have excellent edge acuity and do not require precoating of the substrate prior to printing or nitrogen inerting during curing.
