摘要: Laser light reflected from a bar code symbol pattern is detected by a photodetector mounted in a portable scanning head of a laser scanning system. By selecting appropriate threshold values on the analog signal generated by the photodetector, the analog signal is converted to a series of pulses, each pulse width accurately corresponding to the width of a bar from the scanned pattern. A plurality of functions can be determined from the series of pulses, each function being independently selected by keyboard entry from the head, displayed on the head, and/or recorded by a printer remote from the head. Single line or multiple line scans in two orthogonal directions relative to the pattern may be selected. A bimorph or speaker-type oscillatory element may be utilized as a miniature scanning element. Circuitry for synchronizing scanning along both axes, and for generating a signal to drive the bimorph in a uniform, constant velocity manner is also disclosed.

摘要: An apparatus for determining fluid flow in a pipe includes an ultrasonic flowmeter which communicates with the interior of the pipe through at least one pair of apertures, where each aperture of the one pair of apertures has an effective diameter. The apparatus includes a turbulence conditioner disposed in the pipe having openings where the pitch between openings is a function of the effective diameter of the aperture. A turbulence conditioner for a pipe has openings and a pitch. The conditioner has walls between the openings whose thickness is a function of the pitch. The conditioner has a length which is a function of the pitch. A method for determining fluid flow in a pipe includes the steps of flowing fluid through a turbulence conditioner disposed in the pipe having openings where the pitch between openings, is made a function of an effective diameter of an aperture of an ultrasonic flowmeter which communicates with the interior of the pipe through the aperture. There is the step of measuring the flow with the meter. A method for producing a turbulence conditioner.

摘要: A cable (302) has (8) fibres (304) are encapsulated by a UV curable layer (306) having a diameter of approximately (1010) microns, and (16) outer fibres (316) arranged in a circular formation around the inner fibres (304). The optical fibres (304) are held in position by means of the UV curable layer (306) so that the UV curable material of the layer (306) does not penetrate into the gaps between the optical fibres (304) and the outermost optical fibres (304) are restrained by the layer from moving axially. It is found that such an arrangement provides surprisingly favourable bending properties, making the cable particularly suitable for installation in a tube by means of blowing.

摘要: A guidance method which enables a moving body to be guided to a predetermined location by allowing the body to view its surroundings and to compare the viewed scene with a reference pattern stored on the body. A number of individual reference patterns are stored, and each reference pattern corresponds to an area of the surroundings which is very much smaller than the field of view and thus the body identifies its position by correlating its field of view with one of the reference patterns. To enable the body to identify its position, even if it deviates from an expected path, a number of reference patterns are laterally displaced from the expected path. The extent of the lateral displacements reduces with decreasing distance from a predetermined location to which the body is to be guided.

摘要: A thermostat for a liquid cooling system comprising a seat member having a flow opening therethrough, a closure member movable between an open position spaced from the seat member and a closed position in engagement with the seat member wherein it closes the flow opening, the closure member or the seat member having an aperture therethrough, a device for biasing the closure member to the closed position, a temperature responsive device for moving the closure member to an open position against the force of the biasing device, and a fusible plug in the closure member or seat member aperture that is adapted to melt at a predetermined temperature. In the event of failure of the temperature responsive device of the thermostat, the fusible plug will melt at the predetermined temperature and open the aperture in the closure member or the seat member to allow the flow of cooling liquid past the closure member when it is in the closed position.

摘要: A distributed temperature sensor is deployed in a wellbore and is functionally connected to a processor. The processor receives the data from the distributed temperature sensor and automatically processes the data to highlight valuable information to the user relating to the relevant well, completion, or reservoir. In one embodiment, the distributed temperature sensor and processor are utilized in a well containing a gas-lift system, wherein the processor highlights valuable information to the user pertaining to the gas-lift system. A well model enabled by the processor enables the determination of a produced fluid flow rate in the well having a gas lift system. Temperatures are measured within the well to obtain a temperature profile, and this profile is processed according to the well model. The well model relates thermal characteristics, e.g. thermal decay and/or amplitude of a thermal discontinuity at an injection point, to flow rate. The flow rate determined from the thermal characteristics is used to optimize production from the well.
