摘要: Fiber optic connectors having an optical fiber stub that is fusion-spliced for optical connection and related tools for the fiber optic connectors are disclosed. Specifically, the connector assembly for fusion-splicing includes a fiber optic connector having an optic fiber stub and a boot attachable to the fiber optic connector. The boot is configured to transfer the majority of the axial force from the fiber optic cable to the fiber optic connector. Specifically, a splice housing for housing the fusion splice is configured for attachment to an end of the boot for transferring forces from the fiber optic cable to the boot. Consequently, the boot preferably has an extensibility of less than about 2 millimeters under an axial load of about fifteen pounds to inhibit excess forces from acting on the optical fiber stub.

摘要: Furcation tubing is made of glass-filled Teflon (PTFE) that provides reduced longitudinal shrinkage and increased tensile bond strength in the standard colors utilized for fiber identification. The furcation tubing experiences no more longitudinal shrinkage than furcation tubing made of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and has a tensile bond strength no less than furcation tubing made of clear, etched Teflon (PTFE). A fanout furcation kit prevents movement of the separated optical fibers in a funnel area of a lower furcation body. The funnel area is bathtub shaped with an increasing depth in the direction of an insert block having at least two rows of passageways in a staggered array. Guide walls defining the funnel area form a seal with an upper furcation body. Use of the furcation tubing and fanout furcation kit significantly reduces unacceptable attenuation and micro-damage to optical fibers deployed in an outdoor fiber optic network.

摘要: The present disclosure is generally directed to a fiber optic adapter assembly for mating fiber optic connectors. The fiber optic adapter includes a body, an alignment cap, and a shutter door. The alignment cap and the body together define a space with the shutter door pivotally disposed in the space for inhibiting debris from entering through the opening and into the body. The shutter door is configured to pivot inwardly when contacted by a fiber optic connector being inserted through the at least one opening and into the body. Additionally, the shutter door includes at least one standoff and at least one latch, wherein the latch is configured to engage and assist in retaining a fiber optic connector that is inserted into the fiber optic adapter assembly.

摘要: A fiber optic mechanical splice connector including a single connector element operable for providing optical fiber alignment and strain relief includes opposed splice components that define first and second grooves for receiving the bare glass portions of mating optical fibers, as well as the coated or buffered portion of at least one of the optical fibers when the splice components are biased together by an actuator. The mating optical fibers are aligned while the coated or buffered portion of one of the optical fibers is retained within the same connector element, thus eliminating positioning problems that occur when separate connector elements are utilized for fiber alignment and strain relief. The splice components may be unbiased to allow removal of at least one of the mating optical fibers without destroying the connector assembly or potentially damaging the optical fibers.

摘要: Methods, cleavers, and packagings for cleaving an optical fiber using an abrasive medium are disclosed. In one embodiment, the bladeless cleaver includes a body having a flexible tongue configured to receive an optical fiber. The flexible tongue is further configured to provide an arcuate surface to bend a portion of the optical fiber. The bladeless cleaver in this embodiment also includes a cleaver structure attached to the body that comprises an abrasive medium carrier configured to support an abrasive medium. The abrasive medium carrier is configured to be actuated to place the abrasive medium in contact with the portion of the optical fiber to create a flaw in the portion of the optical fiber.
