摘要: A motorized power steering apparatus is equipped with a torque sensor including a primary potentiometer for detecting a steering torque applied to the steering wheel by a driver. The torque sensor further includes an auxiliary potentiometer so as to detect variations in the output voltage of a constant voltage power supply to the potentiometers. When there is a difference between the outputs of the primary and auxiliary potentiometers which is greater than a prescribed level, a fail-safe relay is turned off to nullify the power steering operation of a motor. When the output voltage of the power supply for supplying a constant voltage to the primary and auxiliary potentiometers drops below or rises above a predetermined level, the output voltage of the auxiliary potentiometer, which is not used for power steering control, is raised. This increases the difference between the output voltages of the potentiometers to a detectable level, whereby a fail-safe operation is carried out to nullify the power steering operation of the electric motor. Thus, the steering wheel is prevented, in a reliable manner, from being turned spontaneously or unintentionally against the driver's will due to variations in the neutral point of the torque sensor resulting from fluctuations in the voltage supplied thereto.

摘要: A motor-driven power steering apparatus and method for a vehicle are able to avoid frequent on-off operations of an electromagnetic clutch 14 as much as possible, which connects or disconnects a motor 13 with or from a steering system, thus improving the durability of the clutch 14 and suppressing the generation of undesirable noise and shocks upon connection and disconnection of the clutch 14. A clutch controller 191 controls a clutch current Ic supplied to the clutch 14 based on the vehicle speed V in such a manner that it sets the clutch current Ic to a first predetermined clutch current level I(V) so as to place the clutch into a substantially engaged state when the vehicle speed V is less than a first predetermined vehicle speed Vo, and to a second predetermined clutch current level Icr which is less than the first predetermined clutch current level I(V) so as to place the clutch into a partially engaged state when the vehicle speed V is equal to or greater than the first predetermined vehicle speed Vo. Preferably, the clutch current Ic is set to a third predetermined clutch current level Ico which is less than the second predetermined clutch current level Icr so as to substantially disengage said electromagnetic clutch when a steering torque T is equal to or greater than a predetermined value To when the vehicle speed is equal to or greater than the first predetermined value Vo.

With this arrangement, there is provided the vehicle control apparatus with safety and reliability by which the motor can be controlled with redundancy, the steering force determination level does not require such accuracy as to use pinpoint accuracy and further even if an abnormal state is caused in a motor output when a steering wheel is released from a hand and a steering torque exceeding the steering force determination level is generated, the steering force determination level is instantly changed to thereby restrict a motor drive direction so that the self-turn of the steering wheel is prevented.

摘要: A control system for an electrically operated power steering apparatus which is capable of eliminating an incongruous steering sensation and improving the converging performance of a steering wheel. The control system comprises a steering torque detecting unit 20 for detecting a steering torque applied to a steering system, a motor 10 coupled to the steering system, and a control unit for controlling the motor 10 using an output of the steering torque detecting unit 20 phase-compensated on the basis of a speed of the motor 10. The control unit includes a target current determining section 25 for determining a target current to the motor 10 on the basis of the output of the steering torque detecting unit 20 and a phase compensating section 21 for obtaining a phase compensation value on the basis of the output of the steering torque detecting unit 20 and the speed of the motor 10. The target current is corrected by the phase compensation value.
