The original separation mechanism further includes a pair of supporting members attached to both sides of the unit body with respect to the friction member, and each formed of a spring material having an upper surface which extends so as to intersect the upper surface of the lower original guide member at a predetermined angle. Each of the supporting members intersects the friction member at the distal end thereof.

The image scanning system may be set to the center of the scanning range and the controller, using image signals from the image sensor, may monitor the contrast of the image while adjusting the position of the imaging lens until the contrast is maximum.
