Method and apparatus for stopping a flyer frame at the time a roving breakage occurs in an outer layer of any roving package during the spinning operation thereof. When such roving breakage occurs, an abnormal amount of floating flies separated from the broken end portions of the roving scatter in the space between the twisting and winding mechanisms. Such abnormal amount of flies interrupt a light beam emitted from a light emitter, disposed at a position adjacent to and outside one end of the alignment of the twisting and winding flying mechanisms, toward a light receiver, disposed adjacent to and outside, but at the other end, of said alignment. When such interruption occurs the light receiver issues a signal indicating the interruption of the light beam to a power supply relay via a particular control circuit which identifies the abnormal amount of floating flies from the usual amount of floating flies. Therefore, when the control circuit identifies the signal corresponding to the abnormal amount of floating flies, the signal issued from the light receiver actuates the power supply relay so as to stop the flyer frame.

A method and device are disclosed for cutting a rove at doffing in a flyer frame, wherein during the normal winding operation thereof the rove drawn out from front rollers is passed through the center hole of a flyer top, the hole of a hollow leg of a flyer, and over a presser and wound on a driven bobbin which is arranged on a bobbin rail moving up and down along the bobbin guide arbor of the flyer. Just before the doffing, the supply of the rove from the front rollers is failed and the bobbin and the flyer are caused to continue rotations substantially at the same speed for a time period sufficient to allow a predetermined number of rotations of both the bobbin and flyer, whereby the rove between the flyer top and the front rollers is subject to a stronger twist than that given during the normal winding operation. This assures that the rove is always cut of itself at an optimum portion thereof at the doffing.

The slack of a rove is actually developed by a time difference between the time point at which the rove is supplied simultaneously with the pushing down of a start button of a flyer frame, and the time point at which the winding of the rove commences after the presser has been pressed against the bobbin. The removing of the rove slack must be performed before the flyer frame attains its normal high speed operation. On the basis of this knowledge, the method according to this invention includes operating the flyer frame at a relatively low speed for a predetermined time period before the flyer frame is rotated at its normal high speed. During this time period, any slack of the rove can be removed.

A data base used for determining the amount of decrease in the bobbin rotational speed that corresponds to an increase in the number of roving layers, along with silver weight, fiber kind, the number of revolutions of a flyer and the number of laps over presser, etc. as variables, is stored in a program memory. Based on roving conditions entered through an input unit and the data base stored in the program memory, a CPU calculates the amount of decrease of the bobbin rotational speed that corresponds to the increase in the number of sliver layers. With a control signal output from the CPU in response to the increase in the number of sliver layers, a wind-up motor is controlled to slow down so that the bobbin rotational speed is gradually reduced by a predetermined amount. The bobbin rotational speed is also controlled depending on the sliver position between a front roller and a flyer top.

The operation of taking empty bobbins from the truck and supplying them to the empty bobbin supplying device on the machine base and the operation of transferring the full yarn packages to said truck are performed in an alternate fashion.

A cleaner for a roving apparatus which is free from an adverse effect caused by air flow blowing along an upper surface of a roller beam rearward of the roller beam, and which, after the fibers scraped from the bottom clearer cloth are collected to the rear of the roller beam, conveys the fibers to the end of an apparatus frame. The fibers, etc., adhered to the bottom clearer cloth are scraped by a scraper to fall onto a roller beam 1. The fallen fibers, etc., and the fiber waste which tends to be accumulated onto the upper surface of the roller beam are guided to a guide rail 25 by the action of air flow blowing from an air-blowing tube, to thereby accumulate on a bottom part 25a of the guide rail 25. The fibers, etc., are conveyed to the end of the guide rail 25 by a scraper 41 moving along the guide rail 25, and then collected in a dust box provided at the end of the apparatus frame. The bottom part 25a of the guide rail 25 is located lower than the upper surface of the roller beam 1. A wall 25b located at the opposite side from the roller beam 1 prevents the fibers, etc., from falling off from the guide rail 25.
