Abstract: Provided is a mechanical lash adjuster including a plunger, a housing put into thread engagement with the plunger in an axial direction to form a thread engagement portion, the plunger engaging member fixed and retained in a circumferential direction of the thread engagement portion, and a coil spring urging the plunger in a direction opposite to a urging-force acting direction of a coil spring. A lead and flank angles of threads forming the thread engagement portion are set such that when an axial load acts on the plunger in either of a plunger extension and contraction directions, the plunger is made self-sustaining, and when the plunger swings by an amount corresponding to a backlash due to a lateral load, the plunger slides and rotates at the thread engagement portion to move in an axial-load acting direction.

Abstract: Air is restrained from flowing into a high pressure chamber while the number of parts is reduced. A plunger is slidably fitted into a body; a reservoir is formed in the plunger with a communication hole formed in a head section thereof to allow communication between an inside and an outside; a high pressure chamber is formed in the body between the body and the plunger bottom section; an oil supply hole is formed in a plunger circumferential wall section; a return spring is interposed between the body and the plunger; a valve mechanism is disposed on the plunger bottom section; the reservoir is set such that a space continuously extends; and the oil supply hole is oriented outward in the radial direction as compared to an axis of the plunger.

Abstract: A hydraulic lash adjuster having a reduced number of elements, yet capable of suppressing air from infusing into a high-pressure chamber. A plunger is fitted in a body. A reservoir is formed in the plunger. The plunger's head portion is formed with a communication hole for communicating its interior with its exterior. A high-pressure chamber is disposed and between the plunger and the body. An oil supply hole is formed in the peripheral wall of the plunger. A return spring is provided between the body and the plunger. A valve mechanism is provided at the plunger's bottom. Provided on the inner periphery of the plunger is an inclined area, subjected to impingement of oil jet ji and serving as an impingement area, such that the impingement area is inclined to fall in the direction of the ejected oil as the area nears the plunger's head portion.
