Abstract: A mechanoreception stimulation garment has a plurality of protuberances disposed as pyramidal nodes upon an interior surface of the fabric. The plurality of protuberances are sized, spaced apart, and arranged to target receptive fields in the glabrous innervate skin when the garment is worn. The plurality of protuberances is forced in contact with the wearer's skin when the garment is worn. The mechanoreception stimulation garment therefore increases mechanoreception, perfusion pressure, blood flow, and perception and awareness of the limb or extremity upon which the garment is worn to aid in relief of symptomology of neuropathy and, in some embodiments, assist in maintaining balance when walking or manual prehensility and dexterity in wielding objects by hand.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing the mechanoreception fabric for incorporation into a garment or item of apparel sets a liquid substrate to a fabric weave to produce a plurality of protuberances in graticulate array and spaced apart across a surface of the fabric. The plurality of protuberances includes pyramidal nodes, each independent and separate from other nodes, not less than 1 mm apart at the base and not more than 5 mm apart at each apex and 1.5 mm in height. Because the nodes are separated and not in contact with each other, the fabric produced is still stretchable and wearable when incorporated into an item of apparel despite the nodes having a hardness of between Shore A 60 and 80.

Abstract: A somatosensation and proprioceptor stimulation surface configured to stimulate rapid-firing nerves in the receptive field of a user's glabrous skin. The somatorsensation and proprioceptor stimulation surface includes a plurality of protuberances disposed thereupon, each protuberance sized and spaced apart appropriately to impress the receptive field when pressed in contact with the glabrous skin of the user. Each protuberance widens from an apex toward a base whereby increased pressure applied to the surface increases an area of contact and stimulation by applying stimulation over a larger area of skin. The protuberances are spaced apart to maximize stimulation of rapid firing nerves while lessening overstimulation. The somatosensation and proprioceptor stimulation surface is rendered in the form of a mat or floor covering and alternatively as an insole for wear in a user's shoes.
