    摘要: Imaging apparatus for duplex printing on a substrate having first and second sides and a leading edge and a trailing edge, the imaging apparatus including a first member having an image support surface adapted to sequentially support first and second images thereon, a second member adapted to support the substrate such that one side of the substrate engages the image support surface, leading edge first, at a transfer region and transfer apparatus for transferring the first image from the image support surface to the first side of the substrate at the transfer region while at least partially fixing the image thereto. The imaging apparatus also includes a waiting station adjacent the second member for receiving the substrate after transfer of the first image thereto and prior to the transfer of the second image thereto and an output station for receiving the substrate after completion of image transfer thereto. The imaging apparatus includes deflector apparatus adjacent the second member operative to receive the substrate directly from the second member and selectably deflect the substrate towards the waiting station or the output station for delivery thereto and roller apparatus associated with the waiting station for selectably engaging the trailing edge of the substrate after the substrate has been delivered to the waiting station for delivering the substrate back to the second member. The second member is operative to deliver the substrate to the transfer region, whereat the second image is transferred to the second side of the substrate.

    摘要: Apparatus for registering a copy sheet prior to feeding the sheet to the image-transfer station of an electrophotographic copier. Opposing pairs of relatively rigid feed rollers are arranged on shafts in alternating relationship with opposing pairs of relatively compliant feed rollers, which are of somewhat larger diameter than the rigid rollers so as to form nips of appreciably greater extent in the direction of feed. Registration gates mounted for rotation on one of the roller shafts through slipping couplings are selectively restrained against rotation with the roller shaft either in a non-blocking position out of the feed path or in a blocking position within the nip area of the compliant rollers but upstream of the nip area of the rigid rollers. A crimper having an anvil rotating with one of the registration gates and a hammer supported by the anvil for pivotal movement into a recess in the anvil deforms a leading edge portion of the copy sheet as it is advanced from the registration rollers to facilitate separation of the sheet from the photoconductor after image transfer by a pickoff element spaced from the photoconductor.

    摘要: An optical scanning system for a variable-magnification electrophotographic copier includes a first scanning carriage reciprocated along a path by endless bands attached to the carriage at transversely spaced locations and driven purely by friction. Pulleys mounted on a second scanning carriage at transversely spaced locations roll between the drive bands and stationary guides to move the second carriage at half the speed of the first carriage. The second carriage may be shifted relative to the first carriage by moving it to a location at which arms lift the pulleys from the guides. A flywheel rotating at the desired scanning speed is coupled to the scanner drive train after the drive train has been smoothly accelerated to the desired scanning speed, and is uncoupled from the scanner drive train before the drive train is decelerated at the end of the scanning stroke. Misalignments between the separately driven ends of the first carriage are corrected by intercepting the carriage ends to induce differential slippage in the portions of the drive train coupled to the respective carriage ends. Similar misalignments between the separately driven ends of the second carriage are corrected by commonly rotating gears at the respective carriage ends that mesh with fixed teeth at one end of the scanning path. Misalignments between the first and second carriages are corrected by a gear, carried by one of the pulleys of the second carriage, which meshes with a normally immobilized gear as the second carriage moves past the same location.

    摘要: A liquid developed electrophotocopier wherein liquid carrier dispersant transferred to a copy sheet concomitantly with the developed image is catalytically oxidized to provide harmless gaseous oxidation products at temperatures sufficiently elevated to vaporize transferred carrier and to dry and fix the transferred image. The catalytic fixer-dryer is brought rapidly to operating temperature by injecting an atomized spray of carrier liquid. The carrier liquid has a low auto-oxidation temperature; and the fixer-dryer is operated above such temperature to ensure complete oxidation of carrier vapors even though the catalyst may have been largely rendered inactive.

The corona wire dispenser preferably includes a dispensing bobbin around which the undispensed corona wire is wound, a lever-plate on which the dispensing bobbin is rotatably mounted, a friction pin and apparatus operating on the lever-plate for forcing an edge of the dispensing bobbin into contact with the friction pin with a given force whereby the undispensed corona wire is dispensed from the dispensing bobbin when tension in the corona wire is greater than a first threshold tension which is directly proportional to the given force and wherein wire continues to be drawn so long as the tension in the corona wire is greater than a second threshold tension.

    摘要: An apparatus which develops a latent image recorded on a generally planar photoconductive member moving in a direction at least partially inclined with respect to the gravitational force exerted thereon. The latent image is developed with a liquid developer material in an extended development zone substantially parallel to the photoconductive member. The liquid developer material is pumped partially upwardly from the lowermost region of the development zone toward the uppermost region thereof. This forms a pressure barrier preventing the escape of liquid developer material from the lowermost region of the development zone. A sealing roller prevents the escape of liquid developer material from the uppermost region of the development zone.
