Polycarbonamide compositions having improved acid dye-resistance and basic dyeability properties wherein said polycarbonamides contain, as an integral part of the polymer chain, recurring amide linkages and terminal sulfonate groups resulting from alkali metal salts of aminobenzenesulfonic acids, as well as the process for producing the modified polyamide compositions.

A FRACTIONAL CRYSTALLIZATION METHOD FOR SEPARATING A MIXTURE OF CID-AND TRANS-DIAMINES OR AN AQUEOUS SOLUTION OF DIACID SALTS OF CIS-AND TRANS-DIAMINES INTO AT LEAST TWO FRACTIONS WITH AT LEAST ONE OF SAID FRACTIONS HAVING A HIGHER CONTENT OF TRANS-ISOMER. SEPARATION IS EFFECTED IN AN AQUEOUS SOLUTION HAVING A WATER TO DIACID SALT RATIO IN THE RANGE OF ABOUT 0.5 TO ABOUT 10 BY WEIGHT, CAUSING A PRECIPITATE TO FORM BY LOWERING THE TEMPERATURE OF THE AQUEOUS SOLUTION, AND SEPARATING THE PRECIPITATED FRACTION HAVING THE HIGHER CONTENT OF TRANS-ISOMER. THE FRACTION WHICH IS IN SOLUTION WHICH HAS A HIGHER CONTENT OF THE CIS-ISOMER THAN THE ORIGINAL CAN ALSO BE RECOVERED AND USED IN SUITABLE APPLICATIONS.

POLYAMIDES, POLYAMINOESTERS OR POLYESTERS WHICH HAVE BEEN CAPPED, SO THAT THERE REMAIN SUBSTANTIALLY NO FREE CARBOXYLIC ACID GROUPS IN THE MOLECULES, AS BY REACTION OF THE POLYMER MOLECULE WITH A PRIMARY OR SECONDARY MONOAMINE AND/OR A MONOCARBOXYLIC ACID EITHER DURING THE BASIC REACTION FORMING THE POLYMER OF THEREAFTER, AND USED AS IMPROVED DYE RECEPTORS IN A POLYOLEFIN, E.G. POLYPROPYLENE, HAVE BEEN FOUND TO CONSIDERABLY IMPROVE AND VISUALLY NOTICEABLY TO THE DYE RECEPTIVITY AND DYE RETENTION OF THE POLYOLEFIN.
