    Abstract: A key-actuated electronic security system having first and second keys each constituted by a plurality of circuit paths in a pattern of closed and open circuits. The system includes comparing means which electrically compares respective ones of the circuit paths of the keys and which delivers an output signal when there is a predetermined correspondence between respective ones of the circuit paths of the keys. In an embodiment employing a NAND gate, the correspondence is constituted by a complementary relationship and in an embodiment employing Exclusive-OR gates, the correspondence may be constituted by either a complementary or an identical relationship. The system includes means, e.g., a latch, responsive to the output signal for indicating the predetermined correspondence. One of the keys is readily changeable to modify its circuit pattern so that there will not be the predetermined correspondence whereby the changed key will be inoperative to cause the comparing means to deliver an output signal and thus requiring the use of a third key having circuit paths providing a predetermined correspondence with the circuit paths of the changed key in order to cause the comparing means to deliver an output signal. Disclosed also is a key-actuated security system including a plurality of remote stations and a central control station. Each of the remote stations is adapted to provide electrical interconnection with one of the keys. The central station is adapted to receive a plurality of keys, each one of these keys corresponding to one of the remote stations. Key comparing means delivers an output signal when there is a predetermined correspondence between respective ones of the circuit paths of the key received at the remote station and of a particular one of the keys of the first set received at the central control, this output signal being transmitted to the remote station for operating a latch.

    Abstract: A key is constructed with a base member of epoxy glass on which are electrically conductive contact strips offering a binary code permutation of open and closed circuit paths for controlling a security apparatus such as an electronic lock or computer. The code permutation can be established in the key by applying electric current that changes the state of the circuits on the key. For the purpose, the key circuits are equipped with fusible elements or magnetic memory elements. The memory elements may be of a type that will change the code when the key is used. The key may have a portion forming an identification card. In further forms the key will have eddy current rings that will react when applied to proper key-receiving means, and the key may comprise an optical mask containing a binary code in the form of a pattern of opaque and translucent areas.

    Abstract: A security system for controlling access to an area includes a lock responsive to a control for providing access to a secured area. The control includes means for sequentially generating a plurality of coded signals and circuitry responsive to the signals for operating the lock or an alarm. The lock is actuated to provide access to the secured area when the proper signals are sequentially generated in a predetermined manner. The alarm is actuated and entry to the secured area is denied when incorrect coded signals are generated or the sequence of the coded signals is improper. An ambush feature is provided by enabling the circuitry for operating the lock to simultaneously actuate the lock to provide access to the area and the alarm when predetermined coded signals are generated. The system further includes timer means which reset the circuitry to prevent access to the area when the proper coded signals are not sequentially generated in a predetermined time interval.

    Abstract: A laser perimeter intrusion detection system which includes means for providing laser beam components for defining the perimeter of a predetermined geographical area to be protected. The system includes a sensing subsystem which is comprised of a plurality of sensors for providing electrical outputs from the sensors, the electrical outputs being responsive to interruption of any of the laser beam components. The system has an electrical signal-processing and logic subsystem for identifying the specific portion of the perimeter controlled by any of the laser beam components when the particular component is traversed by an intruder. Included are means for chopper-modulating the laser beam to increase the difficulty of compromising the system and to make the laser beam invisible to the human eye.
