    Abstract: There is provided a mobile robot including a light source, an image sensor and a processor. The image sensor respectively captures bright image frames and dark image frames corresponding to the light source being turned on and turned off. The processor identifies that the mobile robot faces a cliff when a gray level variation between the bright image frames and the dark image frames is very small, and controls the mobile robot to stop moving forward continuously.

    Abstract: There is provided an optical navigation device including a substrate, a light sensor, a first light source, a second light source and a light directing member. The light sensor is arranged on the substrate and has a field of view (FOV) perpendicular to the substrate. The emission light of the first light source forms a first illumination light beam after passing the light directing member. The emission light of the second light source forms a second illumination light beam after passing the light directing member.     Abstract: There is provided a navigation device including a light source, a light guide and a light sensor. The navigation device is operated relative to a work surface. The light source generates an illumination beam passing through the light guide to generate an illuminated area on the work surface. The light sensor receives reflected light from the illuminated area via the light guide. When a working gap between the navigation device and the work surface is increased, a first size of the illuminated area in a first direction is substantially identical to a first initial size of the illumination beam in the first direction after just leaving the light guide, and a second size of the illuminated area in a second direction is smaller than a second initial size of the illumination beam in the second direction after just leaving the light guide.

    Abstract: An optical mouse operated with respect to an illuminated surface outside the optical mouse is provided. The optical mouse includes a light source configured to emit a light beam, a light sensor, and a light pipe including a first optical element and a second optical element. The light beam enters the light pipe through the first optical element, and then propagates in the light pipe from the first optical element to the second optical element without reflection, and then leaves the light pipe through the second optical element, and then illuminates the illuminated surface. The light sensor is configured to receive at least a part of the light beam reflected or scattered by the illuminated surface.

    Abstract: There is provided a mode switching method of a dual mode optical navigation device. The dual mode optical navigation device is configured to be operated on a working surface and has a first bottom surface and a second bottom surface having an included angle with the first bottom surface. The mode switching method includes: determining whether the first bottom surface or the second bottom surface contacts with the working surface; switching the dual mode optical navigation device to a first mode when identifying that the first bottom surface contacts with the working surface; and switching the dual mode optical navigation device to a second mode when identifying that the second bottom surface contacts with the working surface.
