Abstract: 1,192,087. Oil filter. PUROLATOR Inc. 21 June, 1967 [22 July, 1966], No. 28633/67. Heading B1D. An oil filter of the screw-on type, for use in the lubricating circuit of an I.C. engine, composes an end closure consisting of a comparatively thin walled cover 25 backed by a thicker reinforcing plate 24, both having aligned inlet apertures and a central outlet opening, and cover 25 receiving an annular sealing gasket 28 in a groove whose floor is spaced from plate 24 so that the resilience of the cover can accommodate misalignment of the filter on the engine block. The cover has tubular extensions 25d which are flared outwards within openings 24c to secure the cover and plate together, and sealing compound may be applied between plate 24 and inner band 25b of the cover. Annular anti-drain valve 26 is backed by a spring plate 27. A by-pass valve 17 is fitted within pleated, paper filter element 12, which is urged on to outlet coupling 24d by leaf spring 22. Element 12 is supported by an internal perforated tube 16 which may have annular corrugations with the perforations in their inner floors.
