    Abstract: A metal ion cell that includes a positive electrode with a cathode active material configured to store and release metal ions: a negative electrode with an anode active material that operates at a potential that is not less than 0.6 volts (V) versus Li/Lit; and an electrolyte that incorporates one or more (e.g., lithium) metal salts and a solvent mixture that includes 3-methoxypropionitrile (MPN) and at least one linear carbonate. The MPN in the electrolyte may have a mass ratio of ≥0.1 as compared to the at least one linear carbonate. The at least one linear carbonate includes one or more of dimethyl carbonate (DMC), diethyl carbonate (DEC), or ethyl methyl carbonate (EMC). The solvent mixture may also include a mixture of carbonates, such that the mass percentage of the linear carbonate ranges from 10% to 90% compared to the overall mass of the mixture of carbonates.

    Abstract: A cell for use in an electrochemical cell, that includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, an electrolyte, and a separator in the form of a zeolite-based material comprising one or more naturally occurring or synthetically synthesized zeolites applied directly to at least one of the positive electrode and the negative electrode. The positive electrode configured so that non-reactive metal ions are reversibly extracted there from and inserted therein. The negative electrode configured to reversibly accept and release the non-reactive metal ions. The electrolyte positioned between and in contact with the negative electrode and the positive electrode, such that the electrolyte supports a reversible flow of the non-reactive metal ions between the positive electrode and the negative electrode. The separator being configured to electrically isolate the positive electrode from the negative electrode, while being permeable to the reversible flow of the non-reactive metal ions there through.

    Abstract: A process for preparing a coated cathode active material for use in energy storage devices that includes the steps of providing at least one coating material having an average D50 particle size that is in the range of 0.01-1.5 μm; providing one or more cathode active materials; blending the at least one coating material and the one or more cathode active materials with a plurality of milling beads to form a dry mixture, wherein the milling beads have a bead size ranging from 0.1 mm to 2.0 mm; rotating the dry mixture at a speed that is in the range of 50 rpm to 800 rpm for one or more hours to form the coated cathode active material; and separating the coated cathode active material from the milling beads. The coated cathode active material has an average particle size in the range of 2 μm to 30 μm.
