    Abstract: A light source apparatus includes a plurality of light emitting apparatuses. Each of the light emitting apparatuses includes a plurality of light emitting devices each of which has a light emitting area and a non-light emitting area on an emission surface thereof that emits light. At least two light emitting apparatuses of the light emitting apparatuses constitute a light emitting apparatus group disposed such that the emission surfaces of the respective light emitting apparatuses are parallel to each other with a predetermined distance, and that a distance between light emitting areas of the respective light emitting apparatuses when viewed along a direction perpendicular to the emission surfaces of the at least two of the light emitting apparatuses is shorter than a distance between the light emitting areas of the respective light emitting apparatuses when the emission surfaces of the respective light emitting apparatuses are on the same plane.

    Abstract: A first light source device includes: a solid-state light source; a condenser element that collects light from the solid-state light source; a retardation plate that converts linearly polarized light into circularly polarized light; and a reflection plate, wherein the retardation plate is disposed at a point of incidence of collected light and divergent light between the condenser element and the reflection plate. A second light source device includes: a solid-state light source; a retardation plate that changes a polarization direction of light from the solid-state light source to make a ratio of p-polarization and s-polarization components of the light constant under control; and a dichroic mirror that separates the light from the retardation plate according to the polarization direction, wherein the retardation plate is disposed at a point of incidence of one of collected light and divergent light between the solid-state light source and the dichroic mirror.

    Abstract: A light source device includes: first and second light source elements which respectively generate blue and red lights; a first phase difference plate which controls a polarization component of the blue light; a first light combiner which combines the blue and the red lights, the blue light entering from the first phase difference plate; a second light combiner which the blue and the red light enter and which divides the blue light into first and second polarization components; a phosphor plate which generates yellow light by being excited by the first polarization component; and a second phase difference plate which controls polarization of the second polarization component and the red light. The second polarization component and the red light enter a reflective plate from the second phase difference plate, are reflected, enter the second light combiner again via the second phase difference plate, and are combined with the yellow light.

    Abstract: A projection-type image display apparatus includes a light source unit that emits light, an image generating unit that generates image light according to an input video signal, a light-guide optical system that guides the light from the light source unit to the image generating unit, and a projection optical system that projects the image light generated by the image generating unit. The light source unit includes a light source that produces light, phosphor that is excited by the light from the light source, and a dichroic mirror that directs the light from the light source to the phosphor.
