摘要： Polyesters, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, are produced by a direct esterification process. The esterification is performed in the presence of a germanium dioxide polycondensation catalyst dissolved in an alkaline ethylene glycol solution. The alkali in the catalyst solution acts as the softening point stabilizer. An antimony polycondensation catalyst is also employed.

It is manufactured in a process starting with a nylon salt made from terephthalic acid and 2-methyl-1,5-pentylene diamine and an excess amount of the diamine. The polymer is spun to form monofilaments. The monofilaments may be used, among other things, to form dryer screens for use in a paper forming process.
