A method of producing a combustible heat source for an aerosol-generating article, the method comprising the steps of: mixing a carbon material and calcium peroxide having a purity of greater than or equal to about 90 percent; forming the mixture of the carbon material and the calcium peroxide into an elongate rod; and drying the elongate rod.
