Abstract:
The invention relates to gas monitoring. Hitherto gas, such as flue gas has been analysed either by sampling and analysing the sample or by a spectrometer. However sampling is unreliable, and spectrography involves sensitive and expensive equipment needing extensive protection against vibration. In the invention, gas is monitored in situ by providing an infra red source and an infra red detector spaced across a gas flow, with a filter cell filled with the gas component to be monitored disposed between them. The detector detects radiation direct from the source and passing through the filter cell, and the outputs from the detector are fed to a differencing and dividing circuit to provide an output that is a function of the amount of monitored gas component in the gas flow.
Abstract:
Various embodiments of an internal multi-band antenna architecture for a mobile computing device are described. An internal antenna architecture for a mobile computing device may include multiple antenna elements, including a first internal antenna element configured to operate in a downlink frequency sub-band of at least one frequency band for communication in a first mode, and a second internal antenna element configured to operate in an uplink frequency sub-band of the at least one frequency band for communication in the first mode. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
Abstract:
An aircraft wing comprising: a leading element; a trailing element positioned behind the leading element relative to a direction of movement of the aircraft; an actuation system for moving one of the elements between a retracted position and an extended position in which there is an air gap between a lower surface of the leading element and a surface of the trailing element. Two or more elongate stiffening ridges extend downwards from the lower surface of the leading element, and each adjacent pair of ridges is separated by a channel. The leading element is shaped to provide an improved air gap, preferably one which is parallel or convergent in all positions.Typically the volume of at least one of the ridges is less than the 50% of the volume of a channel defined by that ridge; the thickness of the leading element at the base of at least one of the channels is less than the depth of the channel at the same point; and each channel has an open rear end which is positioned substantially at a trailing edge of the leading element.
Abstract:
A soil treatment apparatus (100) comprises a ring (114) having a first ring part (128) and a second ring part (128). An elastomeric clamping arrangement (116) comprising rubber annular parts (116) and end flanges (112) clamp the first and second ring parts (128) together to form the ring (114) and provide an axial compressive force on the parts. In another aspect, the ring is carried on the elastomeric clamping arrangement (116) to absorb shock loading on the ring.
Abstract:
For the purpose of generating oscillations having a plurality of different frequencies, a read-only memory stores a plurality of binary words which are read cyclically. The individual pulse signals supplied by the read-only memory, each such signal representing a succession of corresponding bits read from the read-only memory, are used to control latches and the required oscillations are obtained by filtering pulse signals supplied by the latches. To guard against equipment failure, the read-only memory and latches are duplicated, the pulse signals supplied by the two sets of latches being combined by means of gates before filtering.
Abstract:
An aircraft wing comprising a leading element and a trailing element moveably coupled together, said elements being positionable relative to each other so that air can flow from the underside of the leading element over the top of the trailing element through a gap between the leading element and the trailing element, wherein a trailing edge of the leading element proximate to the trailing element is configured to disrupt air flow as it flows over said trailing edge and through the gap.

Abstract:
A soil cultivating apparatus 10 comprises a chassis 14 having an elongate spine 16 carrying support outriggers 18, 20. The support outriggers 18 carry a first disc gang 30. The support outriggers 20 are arranged rearwardly of the support outriggers 18 and carry a second disc gang 40. A soil consolidating roller 38 or a soil consolidating press cultivator 42 is arranged between the first and second disc gangs. In one aspect ground-engaging tines 34 are arranged between the first disc gang and the soil consolidating roller or press cultivator.
Abstract:
A soil treatment apparatus (10) comprises an endless band (12) of resilient material with soil treatment teeth (14) projecting radially therefrom. The teeth are replacably attached to the band (12).
Abstract:
A container for receiving a food product is formed from a shaped blank of paper, paperboard, cardboard or a similar material. A hinge arrangement comprising at least two and preferably three parts is provided between one of the side walls and one of the end walls to allow the partially formed container to be moved easily between a flat configuration suitable for transportation or storage and an erect configuration for receiving a food product. In the erect configuration one part of the hinge arrangement is sandwiched between another part of hinge arrangement and the end wail. In the flat configuration these two parts of the hinge arrangement lie in substantially the same plane. An integral lid may be provided.
