Abstract: Techniques and apparatus for generating a compressed radio frequency (RF) exposure map and using such a compressed RF exposure map for determining a transmit power to meet RF exposure compliance limits are described. An example method generally includes obtaining a first RF exposure map associated with at least one antenna of a wireless device and converting the first RF exposure map to a second RF exposure map. The second RF exposure map is compressed compared to the first RF exposure map. Another example method includes accessing an RF exposure map associated with at least one antenna of the wireless device. The RF exposure map includes a representation of a maximum RF exposure for a region of the RF exposure map. The method also includes transmitting, from the antenna(s), a signal at a transmit power determined based on the RF exposure map in compliance with an RF exposure limit.

Abstract: In certain aspects, a method implemented in a wireless device includes determining a specific absorption rate (SAR) distribution for a first wireless communication technology, determining a power density (PD) distribution for a second wireless communication technology, and combining the SAR distribution and the PD distribution to generate a combined RF exposure distribution. The method also includes determining at least one first maximum allowable power level and at least one second maximum allowable power level for a future time slot based on the combined RF exposure distribution, setting at least one transmission power limit for a first transmitter in the future time slot based on the at least one first maximum allowable power level, and setting at least one transmission power limit for a second transmitter in the future time slot based on the at least one second maximum allowable power level.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques and apparatus for operating a wireless communication device pursuant to radio frequency (RF) exposure across tissues and/or body locations. An example method of wireless communication by a user equipment generally includes determining a time-averaged RF exposure per exposure scenario or category. The RF exposure for the exposure scenario may be determined for a given antenna or group of antennas, where a grouping of the group of antennas may be specific to the exposure scenario or category. Another example method generally includes tracking sets of RF exposures separately across a plurality of locations associated with a human body over time, and transmitting a first signal at a first transmit power determined based on a time-averaged RF exposure limit and at least one of the tracked RF exposures.

Abstract: Techniques and apparatus for beam selection in compliance with radio frequency (RF) exposure limits. A method that may be performed by a wireless device includes receiving, from another wireless device, a plurality of signals via a plurality of beams; measuring a received signal power for each of the beams, based on the received plurality of signals; determining a transmit power limit for each of the beams based at least in part on an RF exposure limit; determining an estimation of a signal quality at the other wireless device for each of the beams based at least in part the received signal powers and the transmit power limits; selecting one of the beams based on the estimations of the signal qualities for the beams; and transmitting a signal via the selected beam.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for exception-robust time-averaged radio frequency (RF) exposure compliance continuity. A method that may be performed by a user equipment (UE) generally includes transmitting a first signal at a first transmission power based on time-averaged RF exposure measurements over a time window and storing RF exposure information associated with the time window. The method may also include detecting that an exception event associated with the UE occurred and transmitting a second signal at a second transmission power based at least in part on the stored RF exposure information in response to the detection of the event.
