Abstract: A system and method for automatic serial-attached SCSI (SAS) zoning configuration. The SAS based architecture includes a local area network and a SAS system having a local area network port coupled to the local area network. The SAS system includes a plurality of SAS target devices, and an expander having a series of input ports and a plurality of target ports. The target ports are coupled to the SAS target devices. A management tool is coupled to the local area network. The management tool is operable to detect a cable connection between a first host device and an input port of the series of input ports. The management tool automatically configures SAS zones to assign target devices to the first host device.

Abstract: A management controller can dynamically manage the firmware update of a storage node in a server system. For example, an administrative device can determine the up-to-date firmware version for a storage device or a memory device associated with storage device controller, such as a SAS expander. The administrative device can send the updated firmware image to a management controller. The firmware image is a bit-by-bit replication of the updated firmware. The management controller can send the updated firmware image to storage device controller. The storage device controller can determine whether the updated firmware image is for the storage device or for the memory device associated with the storage device controller. Upon determining, updating the firmware image in the designated device can be performed. The success log and failure log can be reported to the management controller.

Abstract: Various examples of the present technology provide a method for remotely controlling zone management of a storage system that comprises generating and initializing a network service for a remote device and a new thread for handing commands from the remote device, determining, for each port of a plurality of ports associated with storage devices of a storage system, a corresponding zone group based at least upon zone IDs of the plurality of ports, setting a zoning configuration parameter corresponding to each group of the plurality of zoning groups using a serial protocol (e.g., SAS management protocol (SMP)), and configuring a zone and port mapping table and a zone permission table based at least upon the zoning configuration parameter.
