Abstract: Illumination control systems and methods, including those for influencing circadian rhythm, are disclosed. Embodiments include a control device capable of obtaining desired color temperature (e.g., local daylight) information, generating a color temperature value, and outputting a signal including the color temperature value. Embodiments further include a server having means for obtaining at least one of geographical location information and time of day information relative to the server, a processor to determine local daylight information, and a wireless transmitter to broadcast the signal within a site system. Embodiments further include one or more lighting control devices to control lighting devices, each lighting control having a wireless receiver to continuously listen for and receive the signal broadcasted by the server, and a lighting driver to change the lighting output of the coupled lighting device according to the detected signal.

Abstract: An illustrative wireless controller for a lighting fixture includes an actuator module, a control module, and optionally a sensor module. The control module includes a radio, an antenna, a user interface, and a controller. A control housing defines an enclosure for the control module and defines a male fitting for mounting the control housing to an opening defined through the light fixture housing. The actuator module includes an AC-to-DC converter, a power monitoring circuit, a load switching circuit, and a dimming control circuit. An actuator housing defines an enclosure for the actuator module and for mounting the actuator housing inside the fixture housing. The control module receives wireless lighting control signals, decodes the wireless lighting control signals, and controls the actuator module based on at least the decoded wireless lighting control signals, to control the electrical power supplied by a power converter to a lighting fixture lamp.

Abstract: Circadian stimulus illumination control systems and methods are disclosed. Embodiments include a control system providing selection of a preset circadian stimulus profile, including a desired circadian stimulus level for setpoint times, for example, including a color temperature and brightness level for each setpoint time to simulate local natural sunlight conditions or a different selected lighting and/or stimulus condition. The control system wirelessly transmits information for the setpoints of the profile to lighting devices, which incrementally transition the color temperature and dimming of the lighting device between the profile setpoints.

Abstract: Securing device rejoining for a mesh network of a wireless lighting control system is disclosed. A potential security weakness of a mesh network protocol is that a proprietary link key may be discovered by close, expert examination of a device, potentially facilitating the joining of a “rogue” device to the network. Requiring subsequent rejoins of any device that had previously joined the network to use a current randomly generated link key, rather than the proprietary link key, prevents rogue devices only having the proprietary link key from joining.

Abstract: Wireless lighting control systems and methods for controlling the illumination of one or more light fixtures are disclosed, including self-commissioning of hardware. Embodiments include a server connected to a wide area network and having software for configuring, monitoring, and controlling lighting fixtures at a site. The control system also includes a wireless gateway at the site initiating communication with the server via a cellular network. Wireless devices initiate communication with the wireless gateway via a mesh network and each wireless device can be wired to control at least one lighting fixture. Once hardware of the site system (e.g., a gateway and/or any device) is mounted or positioned in the appropriate location and powered on, the hardware will self-commission by automatically initiating communications. The gateway will initiate communication and identify itself to server system. When the devices are powered on, they identify themselves to the gateway and the gateway can inform the server system of the devices.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure decrease conflicts between individual lighting devices in a wireless network when responding to a broadcast/multicast message sent to a group of devices. In some embodiments the devices delay sending their acknowledgment to commands until after a specific time period. Some embodiments limit the number of time delays to one of a predetermined number of time delays, where the number of time delays are assigned by an external source, such as the gateway. Still other embodiments include assigning each device one of a limited number of preset time delays, where the total number of preset time delays are less than the number of devices, for example, ten (10) percent of the number of devices (here some devices will have the same time delays as other devices). Still other embodiments use bitmaps to designating which one or more individual devices the message is intended for.

Abstract: A wireless lighting control system includes a remote server system connected to a wide area network and having software for configuring, monitoring, and controlling lighting fixtures at an installation site. The site includes wireless devices in communication with a gateway via a local wireless network and at least some of the wireless devices are configured to control lighting fixtures, including a configurable user control device, such as a wall dimmer switch, having user interface elements configurable to activate specific lighting effects, such as power, dimming, and scene control. A user computer device is connected to the wide area network and has a graphical user interface enabling virtually mapping of user interface elements to lighting effects. Configuration can advantageously be done without physical access to either the user control device or to the lighting controllers, fixtures, or other devices at the installation site.
