    Abstract: A rotary abrasive machining tool (101) is shown. The tool comprises a hub (103) having plurality of axially-oriented radial slots in the outer circumference thereof, and plurality of abrasive segments each of which is located in a respective slot in the hub and which form an abrading surface (102). The abrasive segments comprise a tab for location in a slot in the hub, and an abrading edge defining a plurality of abrasive elements.

    Abstract: A stator vane assembly for a gas turbine engine is disclosed. The stator vane assembly includes an inner carrier including a metallic material and an outer carrier including a metallic material. The stator vane assembly further includes a ceramic-containing airfoil that extends from the inner carrier to the outer carrier and is at least partially received by the inner carrier and the outer carrier. The stator vane assembly further includes a load transfer device disposed between the airfoil and at least one of the inner carrier and the outer carrier. The load transfer device includes a support member fixedly attached to the at least one of the inner carrier and the outer carrier, and a plurality of micropillars coupled to the support member and extending towards the airfoil. Each micropillar is deformable and engages the airfoil.

    Abstract: A method of manufacturing a component is provided. The method includes performing a machining operation by moving a rotating, abrasive grinding tool along a feed direction to remove material from the component. At least the part of the component from which the material is removed is formed of composite material. The abrasive grinding tool follows a trochoidal path along the feed direction.
